Lu Xun (鲁迅) was born in 1881 into a family of scholars and civil servants in Shaoxing, Eastern China. He died in Shanghai in 1936, In his early childhood, he enjoyed an education in the Chinese classics, but wrote in a near-colloquial style, which left a lasting mark on modern Chinese. His writings are still up-to-date and are also used to comment on or criticize events in China today.
