To those who know it’s not always easy to take the plunge of starting over, changing what you have known for so long. Do you, be brave, and by all means, keep that head high. You’ve got this!

    Chapter One

Doyle Aden O’Malley shot up in his bed, body drenched with sweat. Every inch of him shook and it took him two tries to move his legs over the side so he could get up. Without turning on any lights, he stumbled, yes that was the right word, to the bathroom. After relieving himself he turned on the shower.

He waited in front of the sink, ignoring the haunted features that stared back at him. Doyle wanted a pill to combat this but he refused. Stepping back, he turned his back on his reflection to head into the walk-in shower. As the door closed behind him, the glass clouded, and he tipped his face up to the streams pulsing down around him.

Twenty minutes later, he walked through his oversized house down to the kitchen and pulled up short. The scent of coffee hit him and he knew he wasn’t alone in the house. He loved his brothers but knew there would be questions if they saw him like this.

It was midafternoon and he was just crawling out of bed. Of course, as an artist, he kept his own hours, working when the muse struck. Lately, it had struck after drinking at night. But the things he’d been painting wouldn’t ever see any museum walls. They were for his own collection. Private.

What the hell are you doing here? he snapped the question then walked into his kitchen only to draw up short.

    Fuck.

It wasn’t his brothers. It was Marissa Barr, his agent. The woman he saw day and night in his mind. The stunning beauty who covered so much canvas in his house, it wasn’t funny. She was the one he couldn’t get out of his head.

I know you didn’t think that ignoring my calls would result in me not showing up. Her words were just as sharp as his had been.

Marissa wore her usual work outfit, black skirt suit that only enhanced her body. She didn’t have a ton of curves but he full heartedly approved of the ones she had. Then again, had she gotten a few more since he’d seen her last? The last time he’d seen her face to face was—

No! Can’t think about that. His cock didn’t get the memo and he hurried to the counter, needing to hide that rising indication from her.

Thought you were one of my brothers. He pushed a hand through his damp hair, doing his fucking best to ignore the way her eyes trailed the flex of his muscles.

Her irritation fell away and concern arrived. How is he doing?

    He knew she asked after
