For all my little loves in Texas and all who crave the feel of the sun on their face and the breeze through their hair –S.L.

Hope lived in an ordinary house in an ordinary neighborhood in an ordinary town. But Hope was far from ordinary; she just didn't know it yet.

Hope is an only child. Her father goes to work before the sun comes up and her mother works from home on her computer and usually right up until dinner time. Since they live in a rural area, there are not a lot of kids her age close enough to play together more than once or twice a week.

Hope learned to have fun by herself and she liked to fill her days by doing acrobatics in the front yard, exploring the back yard, gardens, climbing trees and reading. She loves to read. Her favorite books range from White Fang and Charlotte's Web to the Septimus Heap and Harry Potter series.

It wasn't too long before Hope realized that the animals liked her and were as curious about her as she was about them.

Hope loved her home, but her favorite thing was going on walks with her dad. Sometimes she even met him on the street that ran parallel to theirs so she had more time with him when he got out of work.

Her father had been teaching her
