It's a great series! I just wish someone edited it better, and that she'd slow down a little when writing. A lot of times it feels a bit rushed. I like the story line though!

I like it a lot but I feel like Fiona is just a whiny little girl who goes woe is me every time something happens. Lack of proper communication? Everyone hates me. Has sex with 3/5 boys "why don't they like me". Bruh

Chapter 1

F iona? Dracus said with a frown when he pushed open the door. His eyes drifted down to the file in my hands and his frown deepened. What are you doing in my office?

Why didn’t you tell me Daniel was your brother? I demanded.

His face when from confusion to anger.

Because it’s none of your damn business! Is that what you’re doing here? Snooping through my shit so you can find answers? You have no right going through my stuff, deciding what you have the right to know.

Always with the secrets, I snapped at him. You hide everything from me. Everything! The atmosphere in the office was explosive. I was furious with Dracus for not telling me about Daniel. And he was obviously pissed off that I was snooping.

Which I really shouldn’t have done. But why the hell would no one tell me what was going on?

What makes you think you have a right to know about this? Dracus asked. This has nothing to do with you.

It has everything to do with me! I knew him, he was my friend.

Dracus rolled his eyes. You barely spoke to him. And a lot of people knew him, doesn’t mean they’re all going to trot into my office so that I can give them answers. Dammit, Fiona, your nosiness is a problem. When it was about you, fine, that I could understand. But this? It’s unacceptable.

I shook my head. How can you just sit idly by and watch them treat all of this as a suicide? You don’t think he killed himself, do you? What about your parents?

Don’t you dare talk about my parents, Dracus snapped. You don’t know anything about them, about me, about anything that happened.

Then why don’t you tell me? I asked.

Because it’s none of your business! Dracus bellowed and the room around me trembled. I bounced back from Dracus. He was furious with me. His dragon was awake, sliding behind his eyes, and I could feel Dracus’s magic, slick and cold like scales on my skin. There was no sign of the Dracus I knew, kind and caring, albeit reserved. Hell, there wasn’t even a sign of the calm, collected, in control guy. All that stood before me was a ball of rage.

I was clearly overstepping.

But damned if I was going to crawl out of his office with my tail between my legs. I had a healthy dose of pride to my name.

I think you’re making a mistake just shrugging this off, I said. My voice was calmer. I was a little scared of Dracus and what he could do once he shifted into a dragon. I had seen it once before and it had scared the living shit out of me. But my voice was steady, and unless he paid attention and smelled my fear in the air, he wouldn’t know about it.

Point for me.

Really? Dracus asked and his voice dripped with sarcasm. And what does the wise Fiona suggest?

I didn’t appreciate his mockery, but I wasn’t going to back down or curl away from him. Even though I was ready to get out of the office and away from Dracus and his temper.

I think he was killed and you know it, I said. And I think you need to investigate that. Treat this for what it really is. The Slayers are everywhere, what better place than to hit the dragons right where it hurts?

Dracus didn’t answer me. He just stared at me for the longest time.

I think I should go, I finally said.

Yeah, good idea, he answered.

I grabbed my crutches and hobbled out of the office. It was damn near impossible to hobble out of the office with an attitude when I was on crutches, but best know that I tried.

When the door slammed behind me, Dracus throwing it shut, I jumped. I hobbled to an old, upright chair, something that served as a waiting area for when guests visited the Manor. As if that ever happened and they had to sit here. I sagged into the chair and dropped my crutches to the floor.

Theo appeared in the door and looked at me with his brows knit together.

What was that? We could hear him screaming all the way to the dining room.

Could you hear what was said? I asked.

Theo shook his head. It was muffled. But angry.

I nodded. That just about sums it up. It was nothing serious, Dracus and I just don’t see eye to eye.

Eye to eye? Fiona, the guy was losing his shit.

I pulled up my shoulders. What was I going to say? No matter how upset I was about Dracus hiding the news about Daniel with me, I wasn’t going to gossip about it. I know, big of me. After violating his privacy, it seemed silly.

But I didn’t want to throw it all out there.

It’s nothing, I finally said. We’ll figure it out.

Theo raised an eyebrow at me but nodded. After all, there wasn’t much he could do about it, and Theo wasn’t the type to drag information out of anyone.

When he left, I hoisted myself back up on my crutches and made my way to my room. I thought about Dracus and Daniel, about them being related. About the fact that Daniel was dead.

I hadn’t for one moment thought about what that meant. The fact that he was dead meant that Dracus had lost his brother.

I didn’t know if he had been close with him, but that had to hurt, no matter what level you looked at. And if Dracus was hiding it, it meant he couldn’t even openly mourn his
