    Chapter One

The Power Of A Praying Family

There is a momentous difference between a spirit-filled family and a carnal-minded family. While a carnal-minded family takes solace in wine and other worldly pleasures, a spirit-filled family submits to God, singing praises and thanking God always for all things and in all situations (see Ephesians 5:15-21).

A spirit-filled family is empowered by divine wisdom to guard itself against temptations and sin. Spirit-filled families do not indulge in worldly pleasures and desires. They do not waste their time doing things without eternity in view, because they know that the time we live in are evil. They avoid indulging in anything that God prohibited. They do not get involved in anything that intoxicates but carefully abstain from such things because they view their bodies as the temple of the Holy Ghost and not receptacles for intoxicating drinks (see Proverbs 20:1; 23:20-21, 29-35; Isaiah 5:11, 20-23).

Families (and parents) who desire God’s power and answers to their prayers are first filled with the Holy Ghost. They take pleasure in speaking the truth boldly, relating with people in love and overflowing with joy, singing and making melody and submissively walking and praying with the fear of God in their hearts.

"Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God" (Ephesians 5:21).

"That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to everyone that helpeth with us, and laboureth" (1 Corinthians 16:16).

"Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

In a family where there is godliness, respect, sanctifying understanding and sacrificial sharing, there is true love. In the presence of godly love and sharing, there is no room for animosity, struggle and fighting. Instead, a glorious unity and love that attracts divine presence will abound. In such environment, prayers hardly entertain delays.

    Chapter Two

The Power Of A Praying Wife Or Husband

It is quite unfortunate that so many godly wives and husbands are married to incompatible partners. Many others who married their God-giving partners face multiple challenges and mountainous problems. It is unfortunate that many believers do not learn much about marriage before going into it only to discover certain realities later. Though believers, we are often shortsighted and inconsiderate of future consequences when observing certain traditions and customs that are demanded before marriage. We must be firm in our belief in Christ and never allow any tradition or custom to overwrite or nullify our faith. It is written:

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

"Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God. Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you: Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you" (Joshua 23:11-13).

Marriage without reference and adherence to learning, godly instructions, counsel and guidance could only be an incubator for diverse problems. We are all young and inexperienced in the issues of life, but if we could acknowledge God and allow Him to lead us in all our ways, most marital problems would be avoided and our future secured.

"Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge… The backslider in heart shall
