My name is Jerome Davis, born in Chicago, IL and raised in the Christian faith since my early childhood. I began my service as a Christian Evangelist for the Lord Jesus Christ in 1990. In my teenage years, I had hopes of becoming a professional athlete similar to Bo Jackson who played professional baseball and football. In my pursuit of a professional career in baseball and football, I sustained a knee injury. I had arthroscopic knee surgery to correct the injury but it didn't help me return to the skill level I once possessed.In my depression, I became an introvert and would lock myself in my bedroom for hours and would just read my bible. In those many hours I spent reading my bible I came across Matthew 19:16-17 and it changed my life. It set me on the path of seeking a deeper understanding of God's holy word which took me on a spiritual journey to a closer walk with Jesus Christ. In 1989, I found a bible reading Christian church. Joined the church in 1990 and became an ordained Evangelist spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Introduction
Many have asked those who have taught them the bible this question: Why are the beliefs of one Christian church who follow Jesus Christ different from another if the Holy Bible we all study have the same teachings? One Christian denomination will teach out of the bible and say, we are not under the law but under grace; another will say, the Ten Commandments aren’t nailed to the cross. It’s ironic because all the Apostles including Paul agree with both points but many of the Christian churches today aren’t teaching it the way the Apostles would’ve taught it!
For instance, points that should be considered when Paul’s writings are quoted, sad to say; are often overlooked, not accepted, or simply ignored. Paul’s writings were not meant to be divided into two separate doctrines or faiths. (I Corinthians 14:33) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Use this book as a guide through Paul’s writings to better understand his teachings on faith, the law, and righteousness.
Chapter One
Examination of Walking After the Flesh
The most popular verse quoted concerning the subject of condemnation is (Romans 8:1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
As we begin to examine this verse, let’s start by defining the word Condemnation: To pronounce to be guilty; sentenced to punishment. Servants of Christ Jesus must avoid walking after the flesh. We must repent or else we’ll be found guilty and come under condemnation. (Romans 8:13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
The punishment of death is twofold. No form of death was meant for man in the beginning. The first act committed by Adam and Eve of walking after the flesh {sin} caused them to fall under condemnation. When Adam went along with Eve and disobeyed, his sin caused God’s judgment of natural death to pass upon all mankind of whom God said are of the dust {Genesis 2:7; Genesis 3:19} and shall return unto dust again. (Romans 5:12) Wherefore as by one man, sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.
The second leg to the punishment of death is the lake of fire. The lake of fire is also called the second death. This too was not meant for man in the beginning but for Satan and all the angels that followed him in rebellion against God. Satan, through subtlety, continues to deceive the whole world {Revelation 12:9}. Through faith in Jesus Christ, and living by the word of God, we can avoid Satan’s deception and not suffer the same punishment set for Satan the Devil and his angels {Matthew 25:41}.
(Revelation 20:10,12,15) 10-And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 12-And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 15-And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now, let’s examine what we must do to avoid walking after the flesh and escape condemnation. First, we must be aware of what is considered spiritual and what is considered carnal according to God’s written instructions. We know that if we walk after the flesh we sin, but out of all the things we consider to be in sin; we must understand that sin is the transgression of God’s holy and righteous laws. (I John 3:4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Every time we see the word law in the New Testament, it’s not always referring to the Ten Commandments. We must be aware of the various precepts of the law to put it in its proper perspective. Listed below are eight different phrases regarding the Law. When you see the context of each phrase, you’ll see why we have to put the law in its proper perspective.
1. Law of Faith {Romans 3:27}
2. Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus {Romans 8:2}
3. Law of Christ {Galatians 6:2}
4. Law of Sin and Death {Romans 8:2}
5. Law: Levitical Priesthood {Hebrew 7:11-12,16}
6. Law: Burnt Offerings and Sacrifices for Sin {Hebrew 10:1-8}
7. The Works of the Law {Galatians 2:16}
8. Law of Liberty {James 1:25}
Are all eight laws considered dead works? Do we dare say we no longer have to keep the Law of Faith, the Law of Christ, and the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, or the Law of Liberty? That’s why when the term The Law
is used we must put it in its proper perspective before determining what laws we should or shouldn’t keep! Sin is the transgression of God’s holy/spiritual laws. God’s holy/spiritual laws include the Ten Commandments according to the writings of Paul in Romans chapter 7.
(Romans 7:7,12,14) 7-What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 12-Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 14-For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
If we walk in the spirit according to Romans 8:1-2, we will be spiritually minded instead of carnal minded. By the Lord Jesus, we’re to walk in the holy laws and commandments of God like the Apostles of the Lord said; including John, through whom we received the words written in the book of Revelation. (Revelation 14:12) Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
In regards to the justification which is by faith, it’s by the wisdom of God we can understand what our function is concerning the law. God’s wisdom gives us a spiritual mind instead of a carnal one concerning the knowledge of the truth. Case in point: Though the holy/spiritual laws of God, which include the Ten Commandments, are a part of our walk in the spirit {Romans 7:14}; they don’t justify us until after we’ve been justified first by grace, through faith in Jesus!
Before Grace and Faith: (Romans 3:20,23) 20-Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 23-For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
After Grace and Faith: (Romans 3:24-25,31) 24-Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25-Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 31-Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
(Romans 2:13) 13-(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
God’s holy/spiritual laws, which include the Ten Commandments, can no longer be the sole means by which we are justified/deemed righteous in God’s sight once they’ve been broken. We must be redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ so the debt for our sins can be paid. Laws like the Ten Commandments are spiritual, holy, just, and good; nevertheless, keeping them won’t be accepted by God until he sees we’ve been justified first by the blood of Jesus, for the remission of sins. Only then can we be justified by the law in God’s sight. Otherwise, keeping God’s holy laws will be of the flesh {carnal}, and not of the spirit; though God requires us to keep them.
The carnal minded think we’re justified by God’s
