About this ebook

Emma Thompson has never stayed in one place for too long but there was a good reason for that. The money she made was under the table doing odd jobs to keep a roof over her head. There was no way to stop thinking about him out there looking for her. She had done some things in her past that she wasn't proud of including cheat and lie to get what she wanted. This small town in the heart of Texas was growing on her. The people were kind but she was always going to have her head on a swivel waiting for the other shoe to drop. It wasn't until she met Brandon Baldwin that she began to think that there was such a thing as love at first sight. Brandon was the owner of the horse stables and was immediately drawn to the mysterious Emma Thompson. She tries to push him away, but he's persistent until the danger is going to make him reconsider getting close to her. Her ex-boyfriend Francisco Rodriguez is coming to collect. They will have to play a game of deadly hide and seek on land that Brandon grew up on. Brandon is going to do everything in his power to bring Emma some peace of mind even at the cost of his own life. Can this budding relationship survive past mistakes?

The landscape was a beautiful depiction of a Texas paradise in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains from every angle. The rain was coming down lightly pattering the ground leaving behind these deep puddles that sloshed every time I took a step toward the stables.

The black rain slicker was protecting me from the elements along with my leather boots polished with a rain deterrent.

It was all very civilized and I was grateful for the chance to come out of the metaphorical rain. It wasn’t right to have this dark cloud following me around making me nervous with my head on a swivel waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I went inside and began bailing hay with a pitchfork to make sure the horses were fed enough for the night before I was going to return to do the same thing over again at the crack of dawn.

A hired hand wasn’t what I had envisioned for my life but it was better than the alternative of a pine box with my name on it.

My heart would always skip a beat when there was a backfire of a car in the distance. Strangers appearing out of nowhere had me hiding in plain sight with my head down. The owner was unaware of my presence, but he was scheduled to return from business abroad later in the night.

A crack of thunder spooked one of the horses, and I was there to soothe his worries with a hand running through his mane of black fur. Being an accomplished horse trainer was coming in handy from my many years of working with animals. Patience was the key with soft words of persuasion. Finding my way home wasn’t going to be easy when staying one step ahead
