The worst possible nightmare is becoming many different people and experiencing their suffering, without knowing who you really are.
Over the centuries the world had readied itself to embrace the rapture, but when it finally arrived it was by unexpected means, and not at all what humanity had bargained for. The rapture followed a rupture, which in turn followed one of the worst train derailments in the history of the railroad. This disaster was known as the doomsday derailment disaster. The railway's ignorance cost humanity dearly. As previously predicted, the world never ceased to exist following the rapture, but the surviving human race was changed forever. Identity crisis became the norm, and the world was thrown into confusion and destruction as never before. The weather became nothing but one continuous storm. What was this anomaly that lingered in the air?

Deepest Dementia - Bernard Harold Curgenven
Part 1 - Chapter 1
Many patients recovering from a vegetative state, report that they were aware of their surroundings. Often brain scans are able to identify whether someone falls into this category, or whether they are completely out of communication. Unlike those in a coma, a patient in a vegetative state can swallow and will often open their eyes, alternating between sleep and semi-consciousness. Some even adhere to instructions. The lack of response to traditional tests can be interpreted as an absence of awareness. Consequently, many people classified as being in a persistent vegetative state may actually be semiconscious. Further study in this field concludes the interactions between widely separated parts of the brain. Behavior and unresponsive vegetative states have demonstrated evidence of covert awareness, with functional neuroimaging. Alpha networking has been found remarkably well preserved. Identifying levels of awareness has proved near impossible with common brain scans. Modern neuroimaging methods of simulating such connectivity include Magnetic Resonance Imaging and high-density electroencephalography. These methods provide a surfeit of data that needs to be reduced dimensionality, and coalesced into brain patterns, to provide an overarching understanding of brain patterns. EEG is naturally a cheaper test, and failing in its purpose, gives way to further tests, starting with the MRI scan. The questions still remain until this day though. How do we determine levels of consciousness? How do we define consciousness? What happened to me then? I only know what I remember from my unfortunate state, and what I have read in books. The latter is what I remember from earlier studies, and the former will be given in more details here below. Allow me to elaborate: I am suffering from partial amnesia, or at least I think I am. I remember partial experiences, scientific flashbacks rather, which have caused reason for questions. How are these flashbacks linked together, and from which time period are they? I hope to discover the source of each memory. This may tell me who I am, where I am from, and hopefully, how I lost my memory! To conclude: I need to separate hype fantasy from reality!
Fusion power is believed to be a possible solution to global power shortages. Fusion is the force that drives the sun, as well as hydrogen power plants. The fuel is available in sea water, and there is no actual wastage, but the walls of the containers become somewhat radioactive, and accidents are anticipated to be few. They say I have succeeded in fusing atoms, though getting more power out than one puts in is a challenge. Practical fusion isn’t decades away, as many believe. Decades have passed since people started saying that fusion power would be replacing fossil fuels. My company claimed they have viable reactors that fit on the back of a truck and in the cargo bay of a mid-sized plane. Apparently the smaller the size of the device, the easier it is to generate momentum and hasten the development process. Designing the first prototype took almost five years, but now construction is completed in a fortnight. Numerous methods to achieve nuclear fusion have been attempted, but we were using the most popular, which entailed storing hydrogen atoms in magnetic bottles. The volume of a container was forcefully reduced to the point where four or more atoms fused to become a single helium atom. The mass of helium is slightly less than four times that of hydrogen, and the excess evolves into heat energy. Solid containers would usually explode, but the magnetic fields held the process in place, maintaining a steady supply of energy. Cold-fusion, in which huge quantities of energy are not required, had also been used to force the hydrogen atoms together, but I don’t recall much of this process. Apparently the E-Cat cold fusion device was used during an experimental stage. The idea was to fit this concept to smaller devices and areas, such as backpacks. I remember having a portable speaking device. A cellular phone, I believe it was called! It was more sophisticated than the standard communication device, and was capable of detecting high-energy particles from the farthest quadrants in space? Each member of my team was allocated such a device, and these devices would interact with each other. We formed our own network of combined physics and signals, and developed a telescopic view, which in turn was the breakthrough of the century, I think! I remember detecting and monitoring cosmic rays inside and outside our planet’s atmosphere, particularly those dispersed in collision with our outer atmospheric layer. The resulting shower of electrons and photons had been increasing in density over time, and for some reason it was imperative to measure this increase, and how it affected its victims. I’m not sure to what extent we had determined the source of these cosmic rays, but I do know there is an enormous amount of speculation and an increasing number of theories. Our network thus represented a very large particle detector, with the aid of nano-silicon based sensors, which are sensitive to cosmic and gamma rays amongst others. My device was supposedly the server and trigger mechanism, with the built in ability to trigger a blast of antiparticles for the purpose of disintegrating potential threats. Our observation field often covered areas as large as one hundred square miles at a time, and we could alter the coordinates by fluctuating angles and actual positions. I think we were about to discover where these high energy particles were streaming from, or perhaps we had, when my memory became distorted, whether for the first time, or in a sequel. Somehow the study of these cosmic rays led us to realize that in time our planet’s magnetic field could reverse, so that compasses point south rather than north and we're rapidly heading toward this event. These geomagnetic reversals are evident in magnetized volcanic rocks that maintain a position of the planetary field whilst cooling. We are probably overdue for such an event. During the last event, volcanoes erupted frequently. Isotopic dating allowed us to determine the time frames of ash layers with almost perfect accuracy. Our planetary magnetic field is deteriorating and we are experiencing changes in orientation. We were definitely on the brink of discovering the drive behind these occurrences. On a subatomic level, nuclear forces control the behavior of particles. Perhaps we have already found the answer, but I am yet to remember!
