Wire and Stones
You are interested in gabions? With stones and wire there are almost no limits to your imagination, and your pleasure can be lifelong if you pay attention to a few things. Have fun!
Stones — Wire — Installation
Stones
Stones must be larger than the mesh size.
Hard stones are more durable than soft stones.
Some soft stones, such as shell limestone, can weather and decompose quickly. Decaying stones create cavities and lead to settlings. With higher gabion walls this can lead to unsightly deformations and the stability can be affected.
Stones sometimes contain iron-containing, water-soluble components that wash out. They can discolor the stones, deposit on the gabion wire and make it look rusty
. This does not affect the corrosion protection.
For higher gabion walls the stones should be edged.
Wire grids
Use a quality product.
Wire with a lifetime of 3,000 hours in the salt spray test lasts a lifetime.
The push-rod eyelet system is robust and easy to install (disadvantage: you cannot adjust the wire grids yourself).
