    SECTION 1: OBSTACLES TO BECOMING A FRIEND OF GOD

    Having explored the 52 Attributes of God the next step is to explore the simple yet profound notion of becoming a friend (and maintaining a life-long friendship) with God. However, the following five (seemingly insurmountable) barriers appear to stand implacably in the way of such a friendship: -

    1) Limited capacity – by nature Man is a limited creature, incapable of relating to an unlimited Being, whose characteristics far surpass his own at every level, (Isaiah 55:8)

    2) Sin – this lies at the heart of every human being. It causes Man to turn away from God and to defy His laws; opting to follow the self-centred road to eternal destruction. Mankind would prefer to continually entertain incorrect and even ridiculous ideas about God rather than admit to being inherently sinful and in need of salvation, (Genesis 3:8-13)

    3) God’s justified outrage against sin – this provokes God to withdraw His blessings and to inflict His perfectly fair judgements in order to forcibly remove sin, (Romans 1:18)

    4) Living in a Fallen Creation – Mankind must continually battle with all of the world’s distracting troubles and pressures which frequently
