The 5 Lessons Of Christmas
()
About this ebook
It is common knowledge that many people, especially Christians, gather to celebrate Christmas at about the end of the year. This book answers some major questions about Christmas's real purpose, aside from the usual merriments and festivities. Are there any lessons that the God who gave us Christmas wanted us to learn from this season? I had always heard preachers say in churches during sermons that God’s actions are intentional with lessons to learn from each of them. This idea inspired the writing of this book, to study and forensically analyze the story of Christ’s birth in the book of Mathew, and in that quest, I discovered the hidden lessons of Christmas. Please join me as I take a deep look at these lessons and explore their meanings and implications for our lives.

The 5 Lessons Of Christmas - Ademola Borode
Chapter One
What Is Christmas And Why Have It?
When it is time for Christmas, there seems to be some kind of natural change in the general mood and atmosphere around the world. It seems that all of a sudden, there is a kind of frenzy that takes over the air, and somehow people tend to want to feel cozy around other people. However, my first question to you, the reader, is what does Christmas mean to you?
To some people, it is a time of Partying and dining and general exchange of gifts, probably because it’s near the end of the calendar year, and everyone seems to be happy to have made it to the end of that year. I remember what one of my Chinese colleagues at work, back during my days in the research world, said to me one Christmas period of a particular year. She said, hey Demola, I have a get-together at my house on Christmas day. Would you like to come?
Well, knowing fully well that this young woman is next to what you may call an atheist, I was kind of surprised that she was inviting me to a Christmas get together, so I asked her, do you celebrate Christmas? And she answered in the affirmative. Then I asked again, and I thought, you don’t believe in God, then why do you celebrate Christmas and what is Christmas all about. Here is what she told me, and I have not forgotten that statement since that day. Oh! Christmas is all about Partying, Dinning, and whining.
I tried to educate her a bit on the topic, but that wasn’t going anywhere with her because she doesn’t even believe in the God, I was trying to educate her about. I don’t know; maybe you are near that category of people too who say they are Christians but still believe Christmas is all about getting together, meeting new people, going out, dating, having fun, eating and drinking, or maybe even another opportunity at getting another guy or chic to have sex with. Well, I have news for you.
While all these activities I mentioned may be part of the things that happen and go along with celebrating that season of Christmas, they are not all that Christmas is all about. It’s not just about family gatherings either. So, sit back and learn a bit more on why God has chosen to give us this season to celebrate the arrival of his Son Jesus Christ on Planet earth because there are specific lessons the Lord wants us to learn from the birth of his son and why he gave him to us for the Salvation of Mankind and restoration of man back to his maker.
Some people say Christmas is a gift of love, and I believe that’s because of what is written in the scriptures concerning this saying:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.¹
At least if you are a nominal Christian, I mean at the baseline, someone who goes to church once in a while, you must have heard the story told at least once, which the preacher always read to us at this period of the year, not necessarily on Christmas day but sometimes around the period of Christmas to kind of reprogram our minds to the realization that Christmas is almost here. I’m referring to that passage that tells us about a virgin conceiving a child from the book of Mathew. Here, let’s read that
Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,
which is translated, God with us.
²
This passage above reminds us of what the power of God can do in man's life by making the naturally impossible things in the life of man to become possible, in that he made a virgin to conceive without the intervention of a man. The word Emmanuel, which means God with Us, is also to let us know that the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ is a symbol of God's presence among the children of Men.
There was a period in the scriptures that is referred to as the intertestamental period. That was a time between the Old Testament and the New Testament, i.e., the period between the book of Malachi and the book of Mathew before the birth of Jesus Christ. That was the period of God’s silence when God didn’t speak at all to man,
