Oblivious Insight - Chris DeBoer
Preface
I am the phoenix. I am the messenger. Stand and watch me burn. Red, White, and Blue are the colors of the battle for your soul!
-Abel, Celestial of Rebirth
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.
-Proverbs 25:2
I see a pattern, but my imagination cannot picture the maker of that pattern. I see a clock, but I cannot envision the clockmaker. The human mind is unable to conceive of the four dimensions, so how can it conceive of a God, before whom a thousand years and a thousand dimensions are as one?
–Einstein
After years of gaming and running games I had a thought that magic from one realm might interact differently if placed in another. This book is a guide on how magic is balanced through the realms. It is written from the perspective of one of my favorite characters.
Abel is a distant relative of the phoenix. They are immortal like the phoenix. When they are slain they rise from the ashes. They look humanoid but have feathers instead of hair. A celestial phoenix has sapphire feathers but Abel has sapphire, platinum, and obsidian feathers.
They also give off an aura of heat much like a phoenix. Abel is different than normal because he can intensify his aura from blue to white while normal relatives of the celestial phoenix give off a pure blue flame. Some say this is due to his creation on the positive energy plane while others wonder if his blood ancestry is not pure celestial phoenix but an abomination.
Abel chooses to become a monster hunter and track down those that create injustice or unbalance. After that he goes from dimension to dimension hunting creatures. He gets saved from a corrupted ancient blue dragon named Blackthorn by the god of the sun. This celestial god cursed Blackthorn to never die but to live as undead. So every time the dragon lich or his illusions came into the light they would burn.
The church trains Abel as a rogue assassin and then as a holy avenger, a dispatcher of divine justice. Abel continues to hunt and kill in the name of a being he thinks is a god until he faces an evil that controls evil fire and evil stars. This evil god slays Abel and takes his egg to hell to die a thousand deaths. Abandoned by not only the sun god but all the other good gods to be tormented for eternity he learns of the power within him. The devil’s fear grows for no matter how hard they tried they could not take his soul nor corrupt it. Rebirth after rebirth he grew stronger until one day he escaped down the river of Styx thanks to the help of a dragon named Dax. Dax was punished for letting prisoners escape by being reincarnated as a salamander like creature.
The gods dreading Abel’s revenge send the god of death, to bring darkness to Abel’s unending light. The gods watched in terror as a battle for the ages arose between Abel and the Reaper. Darkness and Light marbled the material realm. Star constellations moved and stars died making supernovas and black holes. Abel was struck down and became a blue and white phoenix. The sun god grew afraid that his place among the pantheon was finished. The god of death struck the fire bird out of the heavens and with a detonation Abel’s power rippled throughout the realms. Each time the reaper struck him down Abel’s rebirth grew faster and faster until it seemed like he walked out of the explosion that caused his death.
The Reapers scythe resonated against the radiant chain sword made out of pure soul energy. Abel now attacked using his very soul as a weapon. The gods were amazed that someone would use their soul as a weapon because it is the one thing that when destroyed can obliterate someone from existence even a so called god. The gods watched in horror as the Reaper was beheaded by the razor sharp chain around his hooded neck. This is when Abel became the celestial of Rebirth, the Redeemer. At that moment he realized that the gods are not gods but are just more powerful beings. This is his journey of self-discovery and his search of an omnipotent all-knowing creator who made him. Abel discovers the divine design and like a detective writes down everything he learns.
Chapter 1:
Sinful Meta
I was born on the soul realm in the plane of positive light in the Meta realm of the soul. My mother was described to me as a platinum harpy. She was one of a kind. In ancient scrolls I found myths of one platinum dragon. I suspect either a relative or it was an aspect of this creator that gave birth to me. She did not survive my birth. I was told that she was raped by my father and left for dead but other than that I know nothing of my mother or father.
A Meta realm is a source of the magical energy that seeps into a creatures bloodline giving that being unique abilities. It came at first directly from the Creator and now lingers in realms, where that blood has been spilled, influencing the physical elements. You could define a Meta realm as a bubble filled with planes, dimensions, and galaxies of stars all in one. Sharply the light is divided by a prism as too are the colors of the Creator’s soul divided into seven Meta Realms by the seven sins of his immortal children. Some of these children are powerful and like to play god. They are not gods as I define one but just more powerful immortals.
Both the Meta and the physical points I cover on the heptagram are all realms. Each realm has multiple planes that exist within its boundaries. Each realm has an appointed guardian that keeps the contents and creatures within. Likewise that guardian is responsible for keeping other realms from influencing their own.
