Preface
After my first rehab, I relapsed repeatedly for more than ten years. Then I learned I had an enemy, and that I was in a battle. Ever since, I have been able to defeat my addiction.
You need to know your enemy’s tactics and arm yourself. Sobriety means supernatural warfare. How can you defeat an enemy you don’t even realize exists?
I have lived through the horror of addiction. You can’t understand unless you’ve been there. Late-stage addiction means a complete absence of God. I remember waking up shaking with unbearable depression. Everything was black. It was like being in Hell, a massive void that I kept trying to fill with alcohol and drugs.
Recovery is spiritual warfare. Prepare to enter combat. You are not alone.
Chapter 1. In Defense of God
Many seem to be seeking a spiritual connection in rather abnormal ways. Some of the most popular self-help
books on Amazon are the following: The Art of Not Giving a Fuck, Fuck Feelings, Unfuck Yourself, Calm the Fuck Down, Everything is Fucked, Zen As Fuck, Sober as F***, Fuck This Shit - A Gratitude Journal, and perhaps my favorite title of all, Fuck It, The Ultimate Spiritual Way. Ultimate spiritual way? Really? And I’m not seeing much gratitude in that journal. Yet, no one seems offended by these books. They are considered good books, spiritual even. Interestingly, many are top sellers.
I think it says something about a spiritual void in our modern culture when so many people are drawn to books like these, but maybe that’s just me. If you want to get your self-help advice from some profane, self-absorbed millennial bro that’s your business. As for me, I favor timeless spiritual principles. Live and let live.
It wouldn’t surprise me if many still feel restless and discontented after reading one of these profane books. There may be some practical advice weaved in between the narcissistic rants and vulgarity, and it might even entertain you, but in the end, it will leave you dissatisfied. God does not dwell in these books.
I would never author a book that has fuck
in its title, no matter how many copies I might sell. And I’d never write a book laced with gratuitous profanity. Profanity is the language of addiction, noisily
