Chapter 1
Valerie slowly opened and closed her eyes as she stared at the hotel ceiling. The white fan spinning clockwise synced with her breathing. She was thinking...thinking about the missions completed, the casualties of her meticulously skilled choices. But him...Ray. He was the man that all her walls crumbled for, and broke her rules to fall in love and really feel emotion.
Ray ran his fingers down the side of her face seeing she was deep in thought. It has been a while since I felt like this,
he confessed.
Me too. How did this come so natural for us?
Valerie asked while sitting up in the bed.
Ray laughed at her question, We have history and never got to explore it. Plus I’ve always wanted to be with you.
During their journey the two gave into their inner feelings for each other.
Valerie climbed on top of him and put both hands on his cheeks, Ray...
she said in a soft yet growing tone, Ray....
Ray stared at her confused at the tone. The sound of her voice fluctuated up and down. Ray.....!
Present Day
Ray!!!!!!
Valerie yelled smacking him in the face. Can you hear me?
Ray’s eyes shot wide open from shock and confusion, What the hell happened?
He asked while looking down at his body.
Valerie tore her shirt to patch the wound in his abdomen, You’ve been shot.
Ray coughed up a little bit of blood, Are you sure it wasn’t by you?
Valerie stopped applying pressure and looked at him, I would’ve shot you between the eyes...
True...shit Val how did this happen?
He said while coughing and leaning his head back against the wall.
We were followed, there is a third player. I was able to get you here but we have to get you some medical help or...
Or...
Ray started, I’ll die.
Valerie moved closer to him touching his arms, Listen to me, you are not going to die. No one else gets to kill you but me. Now...can you walk?
I can,
He said while slowly getting up. Where are we going?
I know a guy.
Valerie said while wrapping his arm around her neck so she could help him stand.
Valerie this is Germany, what guy do you know?
You would be surprised.
Stand here,
Valerie said while walking over to a parked car. She used her fist and broke the driver window. Ray limped over holding his abdomen and got into the passenger seat. Valerie slid into the driver seat and hot-wired the car to start. Ray leaned his head against the seat fading in and out. Hey! Hey stay awake!!
Valerie yelled while speeding off.
I’ll try.
Ray moaned in a dazed stupor, breaths fading in and out.
Tell me something I don’t know about you Ray?
Valerie asked while taping her hands to prepare for kickboxing.
Ray sipped his water and looked at her from head to toe admiring her body, I can fake it but not with you...
Fake what?
Valerie smirked, with me...
Ray moved closer to her, With you I can’t fake my feelings. I am raw and open with you.
Valerie took a deep breath as she felt him being transparent with her. Ray continued, That’s why you mean something to me.
Valerie took a deep breath, ...and you want me to be open with you?
Ray nodded, This won’t work if you don’t.
Valerie nodded and slipped on her boxing gloves, You ready to go a couple rounds with me?
Ray laughed, Yea but not boxing.
Valerie pushed him, You’re nasty you know that...
Her laugh faded along with his vision of her.
Ray gasped and immediately opened his eyes and was staring at the ceiling of a dark dusty room. He turned his head and saw Valerie staring at him with her fingers resting on her lips. It looked as if she was praying he would wake up. Hello there...
He said under his breath.
Hello,
Valerie said softly.
Val where are we?
With someone I can trust.
Valerie said as the same man who gave her solace the first time and helped with her stab wound walked into the room. He spoke in German and Valerie answered him in German.
Ray laughed, I forgot you can speak seven languages.
Seven huh? That’s a record.
Valerie stood up and grabbed her gun.
Valerie where are you going?
Ray asked while trying to sit up. He knew he wasn’t strong enough to stop her this time.
You need to rest. I’m going to find the person who shot you.
Valerie walked to the door, but she stopped, On the table is your ticket back home.
Damn it Val! Come back with me!
Ray shouted. Me getting shot won’t stop the agency from coming after you.
I already told you, I have something I need to finish.
Valerie stated plainly before she walked out of the room. She stopped and hugged the doctor for saving his life saying thank you in German.
Shit!
Ray shouted.
Meanwhile back in California Casper was panicking at her desk from not hearing from Valerie for over 32 hours. She was scrambling hoping the phone would ring. A man touched her shoulder and she froze. Casper right?
He asked.
Um yes...and you are?
The man smirked, Director Daniels.
My apologies sir! I am so sorry.
Casper pleaded realizing she was in front of a superior.
Casper you designed this entire program the agency is using correct?
Yes Mr. Daniels, I mean Director.
Call me Curtis.
He corrected, Tell me Casper, can you find someone for me?
I can find anyone sir.
Casper said while turning her seat around to face the computers.
I need you to find my senior operator, Ray.
Curtis said while looking at the large screens and then back down at her.
Casper paused her typing and looked up at him, Of course.
She responded slowly as she worried finding Ray meant possibly finding Val.
Call me as soon as you have something.
Curtis said while walking away.
Damn it; Val where are you?
Casper mumbled to herself while checking her phone for the umpteenth time.
Night covered the sky as Valerie wandered the street near her run down hotel where she occupied a room. She knew she was being followed and was hoping whomever it was would fall into the trap. She went to unlock the door to her room and saw the shadow of a figure, a man sitting in the chair.
Who are you?
Val asked while turning on the light, she was expecting him.
I don’t get a hello first? You women operatives are so uptight.
He commented.
Valerie pulled a remote out of her pocket, Didn’t they teach you it’s rude to answer questions with a question, because since I am uptight I will happily blow your ass away.
Killing you and me, I don’t think so.
He smirked anticipating she had no intention of killing herself.
You should know, I’m not new to this; I’m smarter than that and you should know not to come for me... again, who you are?
Terrance. Valerie, I can help you.
He noted, But first you have to let me out of your trap.
"Terrance...Terrance, no recollection of that name. Why should I help you when you were following me and shot my
