About this ebook
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, is my first humble attempt to bring out a collection of my poems written over a period of few years. . . However, a few years back while in Canada my life turned upside down as a result of a soccer field accident. I had to undergo surgeries as well as rehabilitation to get back on my foot as my left knee was severely injured. This traumatic experience restrained me inside my apartment for almost three years that changed my life altogether. I was unable to move freely and my constant companion was my Toshiba laptop where I watched movies of every possible language and culture to overcome the tremendous pain I had to endure during my treatment. It was during those dark years of my life when i was locked up all by myself in my apartment and restricted to my bed that I first felt the need for putting my thoughts and feelings in the form of poems.
I had time and my laptop by my bedside that I suddenly started typing out my poems. I do not know if they were of any value or use at that point of time; however, it kept me busy and took my mind off from the constant pain I had to endure while undergoing rehabilitation in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I really did not remember now how the collection of poems increased by days and I found my words for expressing my inner self. But when I got back to my professional life after those three years, I have been publishing my poems in various magazines and online platforms across different continents.

PREFACE
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, is my first humble attempt to bring out a collection of my poems written over a period of few years. I am not a trained poet or an expert on English literature. Neither do I have expertise in handling poetic expressions or putting them into words.
My family members, friends, peers and colleagues have been constantly pushing to publish a book on selected poems from my electronic archive. Unfortunately, I neither had the time, energy and opportunity to explore the option. I am greatly indebted to my respected teacher as well as my friend, philosopher and guide Dr. Subhobroto Roy Chowdhury for pushing me to come up with the book. I am also highly grateful to my mentor Prof. Unus Molla for his constant persuasion and encouragement to come up with this volume.
My sincere gratitude to all the staff and members of the International Publishing Centre for their hard work in making this volume a reality! Without them and their hard work this volume would never have the opportunity to see the light of the day. Last but not the least I would be happy if the readers enjoy my poems like my friends, peers and colleagues. I will then consider my efforts to be truly rewarded. Look forward to hear from the readers

FOREWARD
It is my great pleasure to write the foreword for the first collection of poems by Saikat Kumar Basu, my beloved student. I have been encouraging him for quite some time to come up with a volume on his poems ever since I was reading them with great interest. Saikat has been an excellent writer who has shown outstanding productivity in different areas of science communications as well as various research articles and publications. However, I was amazed to come across his poetic expressions and use of language and words that touched my heart and increased my passion for his beautiful poems of different shades and moods. I sincerely believe that readers would love this special volume of his collection of poems of different taste and flavour and the freshness associated with it. This is his first book of poems and I sincerely believe that it will not be the last. I encourage readers to explore across the pages to rediscover his passion for life and solidarity with nature and society.

Reasons for me to live
Behold the beauty of the princess
Oh moonlit night!
Stop not to shine your light on her
Behold the silence of yours oh dark forest.
As you don’t match the elegance of her silent beauty
Behold your sound you murmuring stream,
As you not as sweet as her beautiful laughter.
Behold your smell if fragrant rose
As you cannot match the intensity of her sweet odour,
Behold your color, you floating clouds.
As she is more magnetic then your splendor in the autumn sky,
Behold your warmth you pleasant sun.
As her warmth makes my days live longer
She is my conscience and the virtual reason for my existence.
With love from Canada
Lay silent dear on my chest
Let the tide of the time pass over us
Let the wind blow over us
Let the bird sing on us
Let the sun provide the light
Let the moon brighten the night
Let the rain wash our face
Let the time loose our race
We stay in each other’s arm
All the time sharing our warmth
Let the dew drops adorn your face
Let the sunbeams join the race
While the world sleeps in peace
We continue to love in bliss
Apathy of the rivers
Life for you and me are like two winding rivers
That started in the high snow clad mountains;
And meandered with vigorous force across the flat plains to meet the ocean.
However, the two winding bends never meet each other
Flowing parallel in different directions towards their final destiny.
But the unpredictable nature changed their courses through an earthquake
And forced them to flow as one united stream
Towards their eternal destination to the ocean;
As one unified flow that bridges the mountain
With the ocean across the vast flat plains
Telling the universal story of love and life.
We may have lives in parallel but we are destined
To be united one day towards the final journey.
Missed opportunities
I have always opted for opportunities that came my way.
Some of them turned positive and helpful;
While some others were costly mistakes.
In spite of the challenge of picking one path
Or other that lay in front of me,
I always decided to opt for one
Rather than leaving it unexplored
