    Chapter One

    Jeremy -Las Vegas, NV

This six-hour flight to Las Vegas seems to be taking forever. It’s supposed to be a fast weekend there and back for my brother's wedding, then it’s back to work. But I am going to make the most of this weekend, maybe even find myself a nice, warm body to spend some time with while I’m there. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Right? I’m not sure how my brother can settle down with just one woman. Our sister has been married twice, so I’m not sure why Eric thinks his marriage will last. I know he's been dating Avery off and on for years, but seriously, what’s the rush? Playing the field is much more fun. I settle back, put my earphones on, and plan to sleep. Thank goodness the flight is not full, so I am not right next to anyone. I was up late for a release party, and I am still feeling the effects of the tequila shots.

After landing, I take an Uber to the Venetian where we are all staying, and check-in. Once in my room, I give my crazy brother a call.

Eric, time to start the party! I yell into the phone.

Jeremy, you made it, where are you? he asks.

    In my room, I reply.

How about meeting me in my room, so I can introduce you to the guys? Avery is with the girls getting ready. I rolled my eyes, I still can’t believe he is doing this. I need to talk some sense into him.

Sure, text me the room number and I’ll see you soon.  I finished the beer that I grabbed at the bar on the way up to my room, then I jump in the shower. The small amount of sleep on the plane is catching up with me, so I turned the water to ice cold before I got out. Once dressed in the requested grey suit and white shirt, I grabbed my phone and wallet, before leaving the room. I always liked coming to Vegas to party, and I am here whenever there is an award show that I am forced to attend. Between the table games, and the groupies; there is always something to do. I knocked on the door, and my older brother opened it. His hair is longer and he has a tan that I don’t remember. He is wearing a gray pair of slacks and a white dress shirt with a blue tie.

There he is, Eric said, as he pulled me into a bear hug, slapping my back.

The man of the hour, I reply, with a smile.

He introduced me to his friends; Tony, and Marco, who were twins that are married to Avery’s best friends, and Noah, who was the date of someone named Tess. Nice to meet you, I said, as I looked at Eric.

Jeremy works as a sound engineer in Nashville for one of the big recording studios, so I never see him.

There are flights to Nashville, you know. Sally doesn’t have a problem coming to see me, I respond with a smirk.

For the guys, he explained our banter.  Our sister, Sally, is trying to get you to set her up with someone, that’s why she sees you so often. I, on the other hand, have a job, and Avery hasn’t been able to travel much.

    Wait, what?

What’s wrong with Avery? I ask, worry settling in.

She’s been sick, he replies, with a shrug.

Moving over to the corner of the living room, away from the other guys, I looked at him and tried to read his expressions.

Eric, what’s going on? Why are you rushing to get married? Is Avery alright?

Avery has endometriosis, and she needs several surgeries so we can have a baby. Mom suggested we get married, so she can be put on my insurance. Mom is her doctor and is overseeing her treatment. She is having her first surgery next week, that is why we are getting married today.

What about the families? I ask.

Her parents are on a safari or something. Since her brother Andy died in high school, her parents have pretty much detached themselves from her. She said she would let them know. Mom and dad know, and will be throwing a party when Avery feels up to it.

Damn, I’m sorry man, I say, feeling terrible for my brother.

No need to say sorry, we know that the odds are against us to have kids. I just want to marry her. I have been planning to marry her since our sophomore year, before she moved.

    I thought you were joking.

No joke, he replies, looking at his watch and smiling. Come on, we need to finish getting ready and head down to the gardens for the ceremony. He walked over to the closet and handed me a tie, a lighter shade than his. Once we were ready, we headed down to get this over with. I understand why he is doing this, but saddling yourself with one woman is just not for me.

Once in the garden, I’m standing next to my brother as we watch his girlfriend, Avery, walk toward us. We all grew up together, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that they are actually getting married. As I watch them hold hands and say their vows, I realize I’m happy for them. It doesn’t mean I want to do the same thing, but I’m happy for my brother and his new wife. Once they kiss, I turn to her and say, Avery, welcome to the family. I hug her, mindful not to hurt her.

Thank you, Jeremy. I’m glad you could make it. It’s been a long time.

I told that husband of yours, that planes do fly to Nashville.

And they do fly to the coast, my brother piped in.

After dinner at Delmonico’s Steakhouse, the girls decided we needed to go dancing. How about TOA Night Club? I hear it’s the hotspot right now.

It’s up to the Bride and Groom, Marco says.

    "I can get
