Chapter 1

It’s a hot summer day, and my mom is making the whole family go on that summer trip we always go on every year. Not too excited for this one, I think going on this trip for so many years, makes it something not to look forward to plus I’m going to be leaving my boyfriend, Chase, behind. Its summer, and who knows what kind of girls will try to get at him at the beach especially since he is one of the star surfers. I have to keep an eye on that boy, maybe I’ll ask my best friend Angela to keep an eye out. 

Are you ready for the trip? my twin brother Alex asks while he makes himself comfortable on my bed.

Surprisingly my brother and I are really close, maybe it has to do with being twins or maybe it’s because we have the same group of friends and when I say friends I mean he’s dating my best friend Angela.

Yeah pretty much, but it’s a bummer that we’re leaving. It’s our summer before senior year we should be spending our summer with our friends

I’ve finally packed the last of my stuff for the trip so I get on my bed and see what Alex is doing with my computer.

Well we have tonight? We don’t leave till tomorrow morning and I just got a flyer for a party at a beach house, I think Angela and I are going.

I look at the flyer myself, just the usual, a party hosted by someone from Harbor Union. Well I guess I could go unless Chase wants to do something else.

Alex hands me my laptop and seems to be busy on his phone, Well you could ask him when he comes over because he is on his way, his Xbox wasn’t working so I told him to come over.

Wow my boyfriend is closer to my brother than he is with me, but I guess it’s better than my brother not liking him at all. I look through my emails and after five minutes I get a call from Chase,

Hey babe can you go outside for me real quick please. I’m not in the mood to ask questions so I hang up and head downstairs. I spot Alex sitting there with Emily our younger sister eating breakfast. Before heading outside I grab bacon from the table.

Hey Chase is here I thought he was here to see you not me, I say to Alex

He is, but he isn’t getting any of the food I cooked he says jokingly.

Alex has always been someone that ate a lot I just never knew where all his food went because he is fit as can be. I take a peek outside not wanting the neighbors to see me because I’m only wearing shorts and a Harbor Union sweater without anything on my feet. I spot Chase’s truck but no sign of him, I call his phone.

Hey where are you? I look around trying to see where he’s hiding,

Right here and Chase gives me a peck on the cheek from behind knowing that my siblings are only one room away, I turn around and I see him holding a bouquet of sunflowers, Happy Anniversary Oh shoot I totally forgot, why didn’t this cross my mind?! It’s that stupid trip that’s been going through my head, but I think harder, wait, our anniversary is next week.

Babe as much as I love these flowers you do know that our anniversary isn’t until next week right? I try to read his face, and I just see his face grinning.

Yo Chase is that you? Alex screams from the kitchen but Chase ignores him and still has his attention towards me, Yes I do know, but your trip sort of got in the way so I thought we could celebrate today before you leave? He takes my hand and starts to give my hand small pecks. I love Chase he always thinks in advance, Yes we could go out today, but Alex found a party to go to, and I thought we were going so I told Angela we’ll be there. Something seems to bother him, I hope he didn’t have a whole day planned and me ruining it by telling him we’re going to this party. Chase seem like he was still thinking Well I guess if that’s what you want He didn’t seem as enthusiastic as earlier but I did promise Angela I was going to be there so I ended it with that and brought him to the kitchen where Alex and Emily were.

Hey so will we play NBA live or what? Alex looked stuffed and while they were talking that was my cue to get some food that Alex cooked. Well I could for an hour or two but I wanted to go out with your sister That’s my boyfriend, putting me first, and I felt pleased. I had two plates in my hand and I sat on the table next to Chase and gave him his plate. Oh yeah that’s cool, I still have to finish packing anyways, this trip my mom planned is such a drag, but it’s alright, Marissa and I are leaving soon for college anyways so at least we get to spend time with our little one over there Alex looks at Emily and she doesn’t look pleased, she hates to be called ‘little one’ because after all she is going to be in high school this coming fall.

To join the conversation I ask, Emily have you finished packing? she seems to have forgotten Alex’s remark and in a better mood she says Well yeah, I just need more bathing suits, Alex can you take me to the mall today? Emily says it with an attitude, I don’t know why, I never boss Emily around but with whatever the case is, she always favors Alex more than me when in reality it’s Alex that always gives her a hard time. I drop what I’m feeling knowing that Chase is in the room, and Alex glances at me before answering Emily, like he knows I want a closer relationship with my sister but she just chooses not to. Yeah sure, I’ll even pitch in some money dad gave me Emily stands and gives Alex a kiss on the cheek thanks you’re the best and heads out of the room. Before she’s completely gone I scream out, Emily if you want I have some bathing suits you could borrow just go to my room I wait for a response but nothing, and I just drop it once again.

As I continue to eat my food Alex and Chase talk about the surf team and how they think they’ll actually go to nationals. Alex always thought of trying out, but he never got the courage to, he said he’ll just stick to football, because that was his sport. So while they talked boy stuff I excused myself from the table and went upstairs. I checked my laptop and I just got an email, I checked who it was from and it seems to be from Angela, hey call me when you get the chance, I search for my phone all around my room but seems to be MIA so I go downstairs back into the kitchen retracing my footsteps. The guys weren’t there anymore, they were probably in the game room but I finally found it and I clicked to call Angela.

Hey Angela, what’s up your message seem urgent.

I need to tell you something, and I’ve been wanting to….. Chase comes from behind and starts giving me small pecks.

Wait hold on Chase is bothering me I try to shoo Chase away and he puts his arms up in surrender

Chase is with you? I notice her voice changing

Yeah he came to play with Alex, what’s wrong? Chase is staring at me and he seems to be getting worried also, maybe I said what’s wrong in a worried tone.

Oh no uhm never mind I have to go. The line on the other end clicked.

That was funny, why was Angela acting really weird. I look at Chase and he seems like he’s trying to read my face, Oh it was Angela she was acting weird, I don’t know what’s up maybe her and Alex got in a fight again. I say to reassure his expression of worry on his face. Oh the way you said ‘what’s wrong’ felt like something was really wrong with her, sheesh you girls over exaggerate I thought to myself, I’ll ask her later, she did say she was going to the party, so I’ll ask her then, maybe she didn’t want to tell me in front of Chase because she thought Chase would just report back to my brother. I didn’t want to think of it anymore, that’s her issue with Alex, not mine. So I’ll start getting ready and we could head out? Maybe go to the beach or watch a movie before the party? Chase wraps his arms around me, and gives me a quick kiss, yes that sounds good, I’ll be with your brother okay? I say yes and head back upstairs to get ready.

As we head off, Chase and I decided to go to our beach and just relax, thankfully it’s not a well known beach and it’s really in the middle of nowhere so it seems to be just us here. He places a blanket onto the sand and we both take a seat and just glance at the ocean. He pulls me towards his lap and I don’t refuse and we stay like that for awhile. Hey did you ever find out what was wrong with Angela? he’s the first to break the silence. Oh, no I forgot to call her back, I’ll just ask her when I see her tonight. I thought he would respond, but he just stays quiet and since I can’t see his face I say hey why we talking about Angela, I thought today was about us? He moves all my hair to my right shoulder and places his chin on my left. It is about us, sorry... but you do know I love you right? I face to turn him and his arms are still wrapped around me but I try to read his face and it’s filled with worry again. Yes I know, and I love you too, babe what’s wrong? You don’t seem like yourself. I give him a long kiss to try to take away the feeling that he’s feeling. Once we both come up for air he finally responds, Nothing, I’m just scared to lose you, you’re the world to me I don’t know what I’d do without you. I push him gently so he’s lying down and I rest my head on his chest, I’m the same, we’ve been together for six months, I don’t know how I’d be if we weren’t together. I go in for another long kiss, and maybe Chase is just feeling like this because he’ll miss me when I’m gone, it is a whole month without him.
