    Chapter 1

The year was 1770. Jack ran was riding through Dorset on his trusty horse Brennan when he saw coming towards him a fine looking horse and carriage. He quickly covered his face with his scarf and as the carriage approached he took out his pistil and ordered the driver to pull up. He rode up to the side of the carriage and leaned over to open the door.

If you would please step out? he stated in his bold way.

Out of the carriage came Lady Florence Wyndom and her servant Jane. Both were shaking with fear. They had heard of highwaymen but here was one alive and threatening their very existence.

What do you want of us? Lady Florence asked.

You jewels are all I required my lady. Then you can go about your business as if nothing had happened. I am sure you will have more jewels at home and won’t miss a few.

Lady Florence had to make a quick decision. This man had a pistol and sounded as if he was quite capable of using it. She had to think of the safety of her servants.
