    The Soldier’s Tale

    In days of old, the story is told,

    There lived an intrepid, brave band.

    Their exploits courageous and adventures outrageous

    Were talked about all through the land.

    At first they were nine, though procession of time

    Cut their number down to a mere seven.

    As this story unfolds, you will find you are told

    Of the ascendance of two up to Heaven.

    Our story begins, as with so many things,

    At the start. So here’s the adventure:

    The Captain and Sergeant and Unicorn all

    Had witnessed the Apprentice’s indenture,

    When up rushed the Soldier, a man who was bolder

    Than many; he shouted "Halloo!

    Gather round, listen well, I’ve a tale for to tell

    Of the hunt of the Blue Claveroo."

    His comrades all came when they heard the dread name

    Of this creature by whom they were haunted;

    For the Blue Claveroo - an enemy they knew -

    Was one
