About this ebook

"Her" represents fractured fragments of Michael James Kaiser's paeans to love. Like his first anthology, "To Be Me," these introspective poems are tonal invocations to women, both real and imagined. The phrasing and flow quietly touches the reader's heart, sometimes with a whisper and a caress; sometimes with a raw ache. The feelings are fervent, true and universal. Musically it's cello, Spanish guitar, stand-up bass, and a woodwind or two. It would play in a small jazz club against an indigo backdrop with a mood that matches. Yet Michael James
Kaiser -- the man and his work -- is so uncanny that a UK-based modern country band could just as easily grab a lyrical riff or two and knock out an entire album of Kaiser's heartaches.

    Dedication

To her, whomever she may be

    HER

Most of the day I stare,

    Resting my eyes upon her.

As she smiles I look away,

    Embarrassed by my gawking.

    But when she doesn't notice,

My eyes are on her again.

    Camouflage cannot hide desire.

I bear witness to another smile.

    Vainly my mouth quivers,

    Dried lips split and cracked,

    Licking them wet and moist,

    Foolishly attempting to speak.

    Still; no words come forth,

    No matter the effort exerted,

    Flushing red blushing through,

Confused not knowing what to do.

    As night falls upon me,

    Insecurities rage forth.

She is too fine and precious,

Too good for a creature like me.

    Her beauty tosses and turns,

    Igniting flames within; they burn.

I know I will never have her,

But her I will forever want.

    This Love Of Mine

    You know it's real.

It's with me all the time,

    This love of mine.

    And you can't feel

    What you've done to me,

    This love of mine.

    But strange enough,

It's you that makes this love

    So rough.

    And strange enough,

    It's you that's really

    Not so tough.

    Because rough is giving yourself,

And not getting back in return.

And tough is really facing the past,

    Even through the burn.

    But now you know

    I'm tough enough for you,

And this love you've put me through.

    And now you know

    I'm rough enough for you.

Just let it burn on through

    Because rough is giving yourself,

And not getting back in return.

And tough is really facing the past,

    Even through the burn.

    You know it's real.

It's with me all the time,

    This love of mine.

    And you can't feel

    What you've done to me,

    This love of mine.

    Dancing

    I remember all the nights

    We danced away.

    When I close my eyes

    I see you and yesterday.

    Every night I see those
