Introduction

Life is full of joy, sadness, laughter, and tears. It can offer us celebratory moments and moments of sorrow and grief. Life can show us open doors where blessings flow or closed ones with seemingly unbearable droughts. Regardless of the situation, God is always present in the midst of it all. Now and again, we may question God because we don’t always understand why things happen, especially when we’ve tried to do the right thing. We may mistakenly think that because we are Christians, we will be exempt from many of life’s problems. However, God never said we would not face hardships and trials. Instead, He promised to take us through and deliver us from them all.

Some situations we face may have little or nothing to do with our actions, while others may result from certain choices and paths we have taken. Nevertheless, just as God chose Job to take on the tests that the devil had to come his way, God will sometimes allow us to be challenged in ways that will build our faith and test our ability to serve Him during various trials and tribulations. Even so, the challenges are not to weaken us but to build, strengthen, and shape us into vessels willing to serve and bend to His will. Therefore, we cannot become all God wants us to be through our own works and earthly abilities. Only through God’s reconditioning, molding, and refining process do we become servants suitable for His glory and warriors committed to enlargening His kingdom.

I have gone through many hurts and pain in my life. I have had tremendous disappointments and numerous failures. I have doubted God’s love for me, turned my back to Him, blamed Him for unpleasant situations, and questioned my existence. However, God has loved me even when I didn’t truly love Him. He has protected me when I doubted that He even existed. He has been my advocate when the case of my sins was judged as guilty. God loved me despite me. What an amazing God He is.

Many of the poetic pieces you are about to read in this book are from situations I have encountered. There were times when all I could do was pick up a pen and write to keep from crying; sometimes, I did both simultaneously. But God was there and helped me through life’s difficult situations when others had no clue about my struggles. He gave me the gift of poetry and allowed me to share that gift to inspire and encourage others.

I pray that this poetic book encourages you and lets you know that God understands every emotion you experience, but in the end, He is always there to support and encourage you. May you be blessed in all areas of your life, and may you be open to hearing the voice of God.

The sun may be shining outside, but blackness is all you see around.
