Best Laid Plans - Tinnekke Bebout

Tabitha buffed her nails and looked out the window from Terminal 5, wondering idly when her plane was going to be ready. She didn’t mind delays now and then, as a frequent traveler she was accustomed to the occasional hurry up and wait, but today was different. Today she was travelling to Australia for the first time—and on vacation, no less—so she was truly anxious to get on her way. Fortunately, she wasn’t silly enough to overload herself with carry-on gear, so she had the freedom to move around and not feel tired. She wandered over to the check-in desk and asked the pleasant-looking young woman standing there how much longer the delay was expected to be. The response was at least another forty-five minutes due to rough weather west of the area, so she decided to go have a snack and maybe a drink.

Shouldering her carry-on, Tabitha perused her options in the food court. After looking over her choices, she decided on a last Chicago-style hot dog and some pop. She sat down at the little counter for the food stand and was tucking into a mess of neon-green relish and sport peppers when a husky, masculine voice with a soft Australian accent got her attention. That sure looks different. What’s all that funky green stuff you’re eating?

Swallowing quickly and dabbing her face, she looked up to see a very attractive man with thick, wavy chocolate brown hair and eyes to match, with the longest eyelashes she had ever seen on a man. It’s a Chicago Dog. The green stuff is relish.

He chuckled and looked at her doubtfully. Relish? Really? I’ve never seen it that color.

She laughed and nodded, I promise, it’s relish. We only make it that way in Chicago. Have one and see for yourself. Make sure to tell them to drag it through the garden, so you can get the genuine experience.

The man arched an eyebrow at her and smiled, Is yours ‘dragged through the garden’? It looks very messy.

She smiled and wiped a bit of mustard from her chin. They are messy, but that’s half the fun. Yes, mine is dragged through the garden. It’s the only way to have one, in my opinion. By the way, my name is Tabitha. Considering I’m going to order you some lunch, I figured an introduction first might be appropriate.

The man looked surprised, but gave a quick grin. Nice to meet you, Tabitha, my name is Will, or Wills, as my Gran calls me. He extended a friendly hand to her, which she quickly shook. He sat next to her at the counter and a man in a neat uniform came over to get his order. Tabitha ordered a hot dog the way hers was done and after checking with him, got him a micro-brewed root
