About this ebook

Rudy is a little Persian kitten who was born in 1999 along with a brother and a sister. He was the last to be adopted. But when Rudy couldn’t go potty in his litter box, he was dropped off at an animal shelter. The family just couldn’t stand the mess, the extra work, and the heartache. Poor Rudy felt frightened and devastated. Everyone at the shelter talked about how he went potty all over the house. He spent a lot of lonely days waiting, worrying, and wondering if anyone would save him. Just when Rudy thought there was no hope, a lady adopted him. She turned out to be his very best friend. They lived together for fifteen years, sharing many happy times and a few sad experiences.

    INTRODUCTION

    17880.png

Rudy is a beautiful silver Persian cat that was purchased, as a kitten, by a family in western Wisconsin. After a period of time, they noticed that he was not going potty in his litter box. Rudy caused the family a lot of extra work, disappointment, and heartache, so they decided to turn him over to the local humane society. Rudy spent many days caged, without any hope of being adopted. Luckily I found him—the cat of my dreams. I was able to save his life while enhancing my own. Rudy is much too amazing to keep only to myself. I have decided to share him with all cat lovers in this: Rudy’s story, primarily based on actual events.

    CHAPTER 1

The Smell of Crisp, Fresh Outside Air

I came into this world in March of 1999. With very little hair and my eyes pasted shut, it took me awhile to simply get my bearings. Every day brought about new changes, and about the tenth day my eyes were beginning to focus. My brother, sister, and I all had the same ideas; we were very hungry and anxious to get on with our lives.

My memory of being a little kitten is filled with love and admiration for my mother. I remember all the hours she spent pushing me around with her large, soft paws and licking me with her long, wet tongue. With three babies, you can imagine the time and effort she put forth, feeding us and keeping herself and all of us clean. Right from the start I knew I was a very lucky kitten. My mother was the epitome of a good parent. She was a strict disciplinarian and always maintained fairness. In my opinion, she could not have been a more wonderful mother. Always there for us—ready to nurse, play, and snuggle, and keeping us safe, warm, and content.

My siblings were chosen for adoption before I was, perhaps because I was smaller and not considered to be as attractive as the other two. At the time I liked it a lot, because it gave me quality time with my mother. We would wrestle and chase our tails, tumble off the couch, and have all kinds of fun. When we slept together and purred, I felt like the happiest kitten in the world.

One day a family of four came to look at me. They all took a turn holding me and cooing to me. They had an unusual aroma, which I found to be quite alluring. Later I learned it was the smell of crisp, fresh, outside air. After discussing all the necessary responsibilities that come with owning a pet, they decided to adopt me.

The family discussed who would be the lucky one to carry me to the car. They finally decided to let the little girl handle me. She was very gentle and talked softly in my ear.

Leaving my mother was very difficult for me. These people had no idea that I have feelings, and such a big change is hard for a little kitten. I glanced back at my wonderful, caring mother for the last time.

I had my first ride in a car. I loved the sound of the motor, because it sounded a lot like my mother’s purring. The
