INTRODUCTION
The Actress Within is a book I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I would ever write. But there is a compelling need. A need deep within myself and those who suffer the pain of bereavement to share. To help, to understand, to bring comfort, to give hope when we’re facing the bleakest time of our lives.
Only those who have loved and grieved deeply will realise the necessity of this book. Only those who have lost a loved one will fully comprehend the experiences shared. Bereavement is the least understood emotion.
My aim in writing this book is to say that you’re not alone and your feelings are normal. There are millions of bereaved souls out there struggling to come to terms with their loss. I am one of them. Outwardly I carry on with life – I’m a brilliant actress! My face may be arranged in the semblance of a smile but, like you, my heart is breaking.
Perhaps we will forge another life for ourselves, a different life – not one we would wish for, but one we will face together. At some time I hope peace and love will make your life worth living again.

THE PAIN OF GRIEF
If you look along the shelves of any pharmacy you will find remedies for everything from dandruff to athletes foot, from headaches to haemorrhoids. Pain relief for every pain, ache or discomfort imaginable. But there’s one vital pain relief remedy you’ll never find. Where is the magic potion that will relieve the searing pain of grief?
Grief is never talked about; it’s embarrassing and something one is urged to ‘get over’ as quickly as possible – probably in the time-span judged adequate by those around us. It’s frightening in its intensity to those who witness grief – it could happen to them one day – and it probably will!
To grieve deeply one must have loved deeply – you don’t experience one without the other. The greater the love – the deeper the grief.
