    Preface

My vision for this poetry book is to uplift, inspire, teach and relate to my readers. I’ve never read a book that touched on many different issues and ideas at once. So, I decided to use my talent to create that book. I refer to my poetry as Y’s thoughts because my last name is Wise.

I was raised in Essex, Md. (Baltimore County) along with my two older siblings. I gave my life to Christ at an early age but never embraced the realness of God until, at 24, a kid pulled a gun on me close range, while we were sitting in my van. I immediately tried to disarm him. Despite my efforts he pulled the trigger. When I heard the gun discharge, I worried the bullet might ricochet in the tight space and hit me, but it didn’t. So, I kept struggling with the chump to try and disarm him. I heard a voice ask me, Do you want to live? I knew if I lost my grip on this gun the next shot would not miss me. I responded to the voice with an emphatic, Yes, I want to live help me! The voice responded with these simple, resounding words, Well, live. In some unexplained way I was given the strength of what seemed like ten men. Despite my one hand slipping off the gun I was able to rip it from the punk with such force the clip fell out. With a startled look on his face, he jumped out of the van and ran away. I scrambled to reassemble the pistol with plans to chase and kill him, but the voice said, I saved your life, leave. So, I left. A lady ran over to me saying the police where in route but, I listened to the voice and left. I drove to a safe place, hearing sirens in the distance and burst out crying in disbelief. I cried out, Who are you? What just happen, Why did you save my life? The voice simply replied, I’m Jesus, I took the bullet, I can use you because you have a good heart for people. It was an out of body experience I can never fully explain. This was real. Jesus was with me. Since that day, 15 years ago, I’ve been a devout believer in Jesus Christ. He’s real and the proof has been the joy I’ve had despite the ultimate lows and disappointments that followed. My life didn’t get easier, it actually got harder, but it brought a purpose to the life that I know came from his grace and mercy. If you can explain a miracle then it wasn’t a miracle. How can a bullet, shot in my direction, inside a van, in close proximity, not hit me? Nor have I or anyone else I told this story and checked for themselves ever found the bullet or bullet hole in the van. I even had the gun examined wondering did it malfunction from the struggle and it worked fine. It didn’t jam, meaning a bullet really did discharge toward me, yet I walked away without a scratch. Apparently, the lady heard the shot which explains why she called police. I remember her yelling I thought you were dead. I decided to discard the gun, after a few days showing it to my friends, for I feared it was used on someone else and I had no interest in getting caught with it.

This book will take you on a ride with me expressing my Y’s thoughts about life, love and my prayers. I address social issues, politics and real-life events. In 2016 a year after the riots in Baltimore I couldn’t accept living among so many black men being murdered. So, I moved to the most beautiful city I visited only once ten years prior, San Diego, CA. I didn’t know anyone here, but I trusted God would be with me. I’ve been living here ever since. My life is at peace now, I’m truly happy with who I’ve grown into. It’s time I share my thoughts with the world. I’m confident this book will be appreciated and well received. I hope this book will help someone, writing it surely helped me. Baltimore will always be home but at some point, we must leave our comfort zone and trust God will never leave or forsake us. Enjoy the read and God bless.

    Spirituality

    God Is Able

    I believe God is able

I feel His presence at my kitchen table

    He’s so stable

Stays on watch 24/7 like cable

He’s capable to remove any label

So smart He gave babies a navel

So, we wouldn’t starve in the belly

and every time I find myself

In the belly of the beast

    He sends peace

    He sends relief

    He instilled a belief

    That removed all my grief

    I call him my chief

But He’s not from Chicago like Keith

He gave India a taste for goat

    So, they wouldn’t want beef

    Increase, Increase! my Chief

Built from a leaf to a tree

    Your peace surpasses all understanding

and You’re not demanding you’re withstanding

    You don’t gerrymander for votes

    You’re the subtle and swift

    The Commander of boats

My oath, my toast has grossed without boast

    You’re the most !!

Your Holy Ghost has kept our hopes of your return

and You insulated us from the burns

You turned our lives around from frowns
