Finding True Peace - Neil Acheampong

    Prayer

    INTRODUCTION

Peace may mean different things to different people, but in its broader sense, it is a state of tranquility where there exist to some degree, quiet and calm. Our world has seen so much trouble that the talk of achieving peace often raises doubts in the minds of many. After the signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, everyone thought that peace had been achieved in Europe. Barely a year following the signing, Hitler took over Czechoslovakia and in September of 1939, World War II began. Another example of a peace agreement that has never stood is the Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. All over the globe, people have signed different peace accords and agreements that have fallen through after a while.

It is obvious that we all want peace but maintaining peace is often something we do not do well. Although this may be true on the global scale, it is also an issue for individuals when it comes to maintaining peace in our own lives. The lives of many people have been ridden with so much turmoil that we often equate life with pain and trouble and conclude that, that is all there is. I certainly concur that life is full of troubles and our experiences are very challenging and painful, but the question is, is that all life is about? Can we experience peace even when there seems to be chaos? Is true peace achievable?

There was a time in my life when I felt that true peace was unattainable. It was not until I discovered from the pages of the good book, the Bible, that true peace in the midst of chaos is a possibility. In the book of John, chapter sixteenth, the thirty-third verse, Jesus said, I told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble but be brave! I have defeated the world (New Century Version). I have discovered a few things from this verse of scripture.

First, I have learned from this verse that believers in Christ have a dual existence: they are in Christ and also in the world. In other words, the believer in Christ lives in this world system but functions based on the kingdom of God system. So, we physically live here on earth but we are to live our daily lives
