- Empowering gift for mothers, aunts and grandmothers to give to younger women, and friends to share with each other.
- Book club friendly, and discussion topic relevant.

When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done - Shelly Rachanow
Praise for When Women Run the World Sh*t Gets Done
This is a book about what is possible. It’s about community and courage. This is a book about what it means to speak out against violence, injustice, and apathy. This is a book about the power women have—and are using to help heal the broken bones of this beautiful world. For too long, women’s voices have been overshadowed. This is a book of stories that will light you up with hope. After you read it, you’ll be inspired to use your own voice in a new way. I promise.
—Sherry Richert Belul, author of Say it Now: 33 Creative Ways to Say I Love You to the Most Important People in Your Life
"Honest, thoughtful, and enlightening, When Women Run the World is about representation—who has it, who needs it, and who deserves more of it. This glorious book engages our sensibilities and intellects, and compels the reader without letting us merely settle into its pages as entertainment. After reading Rachanow, I felt illuminated. Charged. Shelly Rachanow’s creative activist and feminist voice deserves a wide audience."
—M. J. Fievre, author of A Sky the Color of Chaos and Badass Black Girl
Shelly Rachanow’s book casts a spotlight on women who are on fire with power and purpose, strong and courageous women who are definitely getting vitally important sh*t done. You will be amazed and inspired by these present-day beacons of hope for a brighter future.
—Sue Patton Thoele, author of Strength: Meditations for Wisdom, Balance & Power and The Woman’s Book of Courage
An intimate narrative and view of our times unfolds across multiple stories in this compelling tour de force of sisterhood. A must-read for every woman and girl who has ever dared to dream of a better world of equality and inclusion. Shelly Rachanow masterfully delivers each story with power and grace, much like the women she writes about. A masterclass in inspiration!
—Becca Anderson, author of Badass Affirmations
Women are, quite simply, amazing. I know many women who meditate, practice yoga, pack nourishing lunches for their kids, answer twenty-five emails, inspire their workplace teams, take a brisk walk, donate, comfort friends, and engage in political activism—and that’s all before 9:45 a.m.! This book is a celebration of women and our extraordinary ability to get things done. For women in our world, as our power continues to rise, the best is yet to come.
—Alexandra Franzen, author of The Checklist Book and You’re Going to Survive (alexandrafranzen.com)
"Years ago, I saw Shelly’s first book, If Women Ran the World, Sh*t Would Get Done, and thought it was the most brilliant title ever. I can’t count the number of times I’ve quoted that title since then. So, needless to say, I’m thrilled that she’s written this follow-up, because heaven knows there’s a lot of sh*t that needs to get done in today’s messed-up world. And as we all know, the best man for the job is a woman!"
—B. J. Gallagher, author of Everything I Need to Know I Learned from Other Women and Women’s Work Is Never Done
Every woman’s voice is a spark that can fuel our collective fire. This book shares stories of individual women whose courage to speak up launched movements to empower girls and women around the globe. These stories bear witness to women’s power to lift each other up, and they will inspire each of us to add our own voice to the growing chorus for equality and women’s rights.

To all women—past, present, and future—who work to make the world a better place and improve the lives of people everywhere. Thank you.
I’m absolutely confident that, for two years, if every nation on earth was run by women, you would see a significant improvement across the board on just about everything…living standards and outcomes.

Introduction
A chorus of women’s voices grows around the world. And with each new voice the chorus grows louder, the chorus grows stronger, until it becomes deafening. The time to be silent is over.
In recent years, women have marched, taken to social media and raised our voices for equality and rights, pussy hats and all. We have taken on governments and fought against the towers of inequality and injustice. We have had the courage to say #MeToo and bring predators to their knees, letting their names be known.
Around the world, we have fought to end childhood marriage and gain equal inheritance laws. In many places, young girls are risking their lives for an education and dreaming of a job, let alone a career.
In fact, record numbers of us have run for office, so we can have a greater say about our rights and our bodies. Millions have protested against climate change, for LGBTQ rights, marriage equality, equal pay—and, above all, against the self-professed pussy grabber
winning the US presidency.
We have done all these deeds in the name of accountability and decency, to honor and protect our rights and the rights of our future generations, to never fail in our commitment to ensure safety and respect for each other no matter the moment…no matter the time.
This is our collective voice. This is our power. This is the power of women. And our stories are reverberating around the world.
Sometimes a woman’s story starts with courage, like Sampat Pal Devi from Northern India, who one day saw a man beating his wife. When she begged him to stop, he beat her as well. The next day, she returned with a bamboo stick and five other women and they gave him the lashing he deserved. News of her actions quickly spread and soon dozens of women flocked to her, asking for help, while even more women joined her team—and now they are thousands of women strong. Known for their pink saris, chosen to signify the womanhood and understated strength,
the Gulabi Gang and its thousands of women have worked to stop
