Bonnie Lacy is an independent author of fiction, nonfiction, devotionals, and many short stories. She lives with her husband, her certified car consultant, in small town America where most of her novels take place. She loves the weird things: sink holes, caves, exploring cemeteries, old store basements where you might be glad you are wearing boots. Decorations A Short Story - Bonnie Lacy

    Decorations

    Bonnie Lacy

H oly Ka-moly, Bill scratched his head and readjusted the harness straps holding him onto the tree. This is the easiest, most boring job that I’ve ever done. He centered his hat again. You, Mate?

The man dangling next to him just shook his head.

    No response.

The man barely moved in the harness. He started to shake his head again, then stopped.

Bill looked him up and down. A chuckle burst from his mouth, but he swallowed, fast. Swallowed again. Cleared his throat and looked the other way.

    Breathe, Bill.

This is an easy job, right Mate? Bill glanced at the man hanging next to him, again. Gawd. The hat he had on was funny enough—red with green trim and a bouquet of bells dangling from the top—but his costume.

    Gawd!

    Bill sputtered and looked away.

The man could have been the skinniest person in Las Vegas, but the huge, plastic ball with holes for his arms and legs to dangle from—red again—made him look like a huge snowball that had rolled downhill picking up body parts.

    But red.

    Definitely a huge Christmas
