This book started out as two characters I believed I had to create from scratch, but in reality I found out that the characters already existed inside of me. Embracing the fact that we all sometimes feel a little entitled in life, which can lead to us getting lost in the thick of things, I can admit I’ve got a Mee Mei inside of me; she has just been tamed through life experiences and likes to make an appearance once a month. This book is set for the me generation, which I hope thousands of young women can relate to, as well as feel the joy of knowing you are far from alone in your tantrums and princess outbursts. Mee Mei are simply women like me and you on a journey of the self.
I am yet to meet a woman who claims to have got herself together at first attempt. Laugh with me as I take you on the adventure of ‘Mee Mei’. Embody the realities of growing up and falling in line with what life’s really all about.
Chapter 1
Mee Love Mei and Mee Love Myself!
Mee Mei sits uncomfortably through the graduation speeches. Mr Hardwick walks on stage and addresses the students. Right, students, we are at the highlight of the ceremony, it’s time for me to announce the excellence award.
Mr Hardwick ruffles through the papers in his hands; slightly flustered, he begins to stutter as he realises the students await his response. Mr Hardwick stares confusedly at the paperwork. There must be some mistake, these two never even attempted any work in all the years they attended here.
Mr Hardwick quickly turns to Ms Taylor confused. Ms Taylor walks over quickly to Mr Hardwick to join him by the presentation box on the stage. Ms Taylor adjusts her glasses and looks at the piece of paper and shrugs her shoulders in dismay at Mr Hardwick. Mr Hardwick clears his throat and slowly squeezes out a response for the awkward hold-up of announcement. I present this certificate to two of our most unique students, to say the least, that we have ever had in Orange Park High.
Once again, Mr Hardwick finds his words twisted underneath his tongue, leaving only the sounds of splutter exiting from his mouth. A student from the back shouts out in a hooligan manner, Spit it out, Hardy!
Snapping back to the quick reality of what his words have failed to explain, Mr Hardwick takes a hard swallow of saliva and responds, As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, I present this certificate to Mee Mei.
Two amazing-looking young girls walk through the crowd dressed in a couture version of their graduation outfits. Mr Hardwick stares in amazement, then slaps his forehead and composes himself and straightens his suit jacket. The girls walk onto the stage and grab the microphone.
Mee turns to Mr Hardwick. Thanks, Hardwick, we will take it from here.
Mei then sharply signals to the audience.
Right, hush up dimwits, we have something to say, as happy as we are to finally be free from this forsaken place, which we were paid to attend, by the way, we actually more than expected to be given this certificate of excellence.
Mee than steps forward excitedly. Like seriously, who else was going to get it?
Mei interjects in agreement, That’s right, Sis, absolutely no competition. We also want to remind you that not only is it Graduation Day, it’s the most important day of the year ever.
Mee Mei give a shriek of excitement and struggle to contain themselves.
Mee tilts her head at the dumbfounded audience. "Don’t
