I'm a native Floridian, retired from the US Army, I started writing in the army, mostly training and tech manuals. Boring stuff, but it whetted my interest in writing. I've written sci-fi, thrillers, mysteries, humor, fantasies, horror, and more. I'm now living in NC. While in the army, I served in air defense artillery, military intelligence, and psychological operations. I also worked in Federal Civil Service as a quality assurance specialist, ammunition surveillance. I love writing, reading, most kinds of music, and animals--especially dogs.

Part I: The Elves VS the Aliens
Hal Foster and Axel Johannson were enjoying a hike in the woods when they spied a strange looking box. Axel, a foreign exchange student hosted by Hal's family, was the first to see it. It was almost directly in their path.
Wait,
he said, What on Earth is that?
No idea,
said Hal. We hiked this same trail a few days ago and it wasn't here, I'm sure.
He stooped to pick it up, and the two of them studied it. The box was made of highly polished rosewood and generously inlaid with intricate patterns of what appeared to be solid gold. The wooden parts were joined together and fitted so well that it appeared to be seamless. It was a small box, not much bigger than a standard dictionary.
Whoever made this,
said Axel, went to a lot of trouble. It's perfectly crafted.
That's for sure,
Hal replied. He found a latch and opened the container. A book of some kind was inside.
It looks to be a diary,
observed Axel. Think we should open it?
Well, we won't know what it is unless we peek inside.
Axel smiled. Well let's find out.
Hal opened the cover to reveal the first page.
Wow,
he said, this is written in very old English lettering. Beautiful.
Axel looked at him. What? What are you talking about? The book is in Swedish.
That can't be. It's definitely English.
Hal proceeded to read the first few lines, then looked at Axel. Well?
Axel was dumbfounded. What you read is exactly what I read in Swedish.
