Two stories, the title story plus "Sleepwalker." In the title story Pete, a city boy from Baltimore, visits his cousin in Florida. The two go camping and Pete gets lost in a vast area of a swamp. He wanders into an area that was cursed by an evil Shaman long ago. The shaman awakens as a terrible werebeast when anyone violates his grounds. In addition to the danger from snakes and gators, Pete is stalked by the beast.
In "Sleepwalker" a young woman awakens in a cemetery. Flashes of memory of a tall man in a black suit terrorizes her. She goes to a nearby house to seek help...and sees the tall man in the black suit.

Big Misty Swamp

The hunter was a big, powerful man, armed with a hunting rifle, a pistol, and a Bowie knife.  He had hunted in Big Misty Swamp all his life and was completely at home in the swamp.  As he made his way through the familiar surroundings, he was suddenly startled by an unfamiliar sound.  Something was moving noisily through the brush, and it was making no attempt at stealth.  The noise stopped abruptly, and dead silence followed.

Suddenly, something exploded through the brush a few feet in front of him, and the hunter froze in terror as he faced a nightmare. 

There were dangerous creatures in the swamp, but the hunter knew how to deal with them.  He feared nothing in the swamp.  But as he gaped at the thing before him, he screamed.

Help…Help!  Oh my God...

The two boys stared at the carcass of the wild pig lying on the creek bank.  Jodie, the older of the two, walked up to the carcass for a closer look.  Pete, feeling somewhat squeamish, kept his distance.
