About this ebook

Kerry O'Fallon is a successful warlock about to be offered a partnership position at the law firm he works at. Thankful he's remained close to his college buddies; his life is otherwise pretty dull. Trying to find an immortal in the city is near impossible. Finding one he can spend more than an hour with has proved to be a complete waste of time.

Minnie Andrews is a single child, brilliant artist and more than her love of clothes, shoes and purses is her happiness with her lifestyle. She might be alone, sometimes even lonely, however, Minnie can do as she pleases, go where she wants when she wants and no warlock is going to ever change her.

Amy Gregory

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs.  The real answer is, “in bits and pieces”.  She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions.  Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times. She has an off the wall, snarky, off the cuff sense of humor that often shocks even those who’ve known her for years.  And she loves that her children have all been blessed that ability to make others laugh as well.  At least she’s grateful most of the time!  Her husband often teases her about how she “makes this stuff up” when he’s reading a piece of her work. … The answer—“it just comes to me when I’m typing”. Scary thought, huh!

    Chapter 1

Kerry O’Fallon smacked the old stone wall. Gooey, disgusting brown slime dripped from his hand making him gag as it barely missed dripping onto his dress shoes. Damn it, Ciara, he muttered to himself. Talking to his younger sister through the rusty bars in cell block D of the Magic Pokey was never his choice of a fool’s errands. As her attorney, big brother and forced by his parents, Kerry had no choice. But he was damn sure going to make his parents reimburse him for any ruined suits, shoes or anything else by having to step foot in the nasty witch’s jail.

Sure, from the outside it looked like a beautiful bed and breakfast in Salem, Massachusetts. Inside was anything but. Cold, damp, gross and nasty were the nicest things he could say about it. Add to the group of trollish-looking little hall monitors that buzzed by him at knee height a dozen times trying to eavesdrop and he now had a raging migraine.

Kerry couldn’t decide whether Ciara was more stubborn than smart, or so completely naïve that she might actually live out her days in the Goddess awful dungeon. Cell block D was specifically held for witches that abused their magic. She was miles beyond guilty. All she had to do was apologize to the Goddess and the board of the Magic Pokey and take their plea offer of half a million service hours.

He walked out into the sunshine, letting the heavy door shut and lock behind him, keeping mortals out. That dim-witted, pea brain idiot. She fucking wrecked her Porsche, poofed Dad’s Maserati to the side of the highway—then wrecked it on the way home.

She was the most over-indulged princess witch he’d ever known and how they were related and raised by the same parent’s was anyone’s guess. What ended her up in the pokey was fixing both cars with her magic before going to their parents with the truth and asking for help. The board of the jail basically considered it theft. The attorney in him could see a second side to the story. She didn’t physically take anything, not from a store like zapping five thousand dollars’ worth of clothes straight into her closet at home. Yes, she’d taken their father’s car, but the council usually left that sort of thing between the family. It was the use of her magic for something for her own good and to help no one else but her own ass stay out of hot water—which was the problem. Kerry could also see that point clearly as well.

C’est la vie. Kerry said as he shut his own car door. Can’t fix stupid. Goddess knows I have tried. She’d been the last thing on his list for the day, so he could go home and fix himself a stiff drink. He had to call their mother first and report that Princess Nincompoop had yet to come to her right mind. As her attorney, he was the only one who had privileges to visit. His parents had spent two years waiting for her to grow up and do the right thing, no calls, no visits, no letters. Kerry dreaded visiting the Magic Pokey because he knew she thought she was completely mistreated and blah, blah, blah. He hated more that he had to tell their parents once again—he’d failed to get her out and it’d be three more months before he could go back and try again.

He looked at his passenger seat, the pile of mail he’d picked up on his lunch break. Before peeling off into traffic, he opened the letter from one of his three oldest friends. Forget the drink, meeting up in Assjacket, West Virginia with Joshua, Bill and Vic was exactly what he needed to forget all about his sister and the bad mood she cast over him.

MILLICENT ANDREWS HAD been dying to meet—well not literally dying, she was a creator witch after all. But her favorite client had been keeping her busy for over a year without a face-to-face meeting. Lessy Wilder had found Millicent’s, Minnie for short, online store and it seemed it was all she could do to keep up with the demand Lessy directed her way. Lessy’s purchases were typically paintings that could be used for holiday decorating, but Minnie had picked up a fair amount of commissioned pieces from Lessy’s customers. She owed it to the loyal client, and now long-distance friend to finally meet her in person.

Driving from Salem, Massachusetts wasn’t her first choice on any given day, especially clear to Assjacket, West Virginia. Two mishaps in transporting with priceless paintings was all it took to teach Minnie it wasn’t worth the time it took to redo weeks’ worth of work just to save herself drive time. She could ship anything anywhere, and the FedEx store on the corner of her block loved the business she gave them. Something about her and the painting transporting together ended in catastrophe of ruined clothes covered in melted paint and a blobby mess covered canvas. Minnie had researched it and asked around but so far no one had a clue as to why oil paints blew up when mixed with magic.

The tourists that flocked to Salem yearly would have a field day if they knew actual witches and warlocks walked among them. It was almost a perfect place to grow up. If only the warlocks she knew weren’t so full of themselves that their ginormous egos barely fit through a standard doorway. They were so horrendous she’d rather choke on a dirty, dust bunny covered gumball than ever date one of them. Of course,
