    Chapter 1 Enlarge My Territory

    ––––––––

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!  And God granted him that which he requested" (1 Chronicles 4:10).  Jabez was a praying man.  One way to be truly great is to seek to do God’s Will no matter what, and to pray earnestly.  Jabez prayed to the true and living God who alone can hear and answer prayer, and in prayer, he regarded Him as a God in covenant with His people.  He does not express his promise, but leaves it to be understood.  He was afraid to make promises in his own strength and resolved to devote himself entirely to God.

There were four things Jabez prayed for.  Jabez prayed that God would bless him indeed. Spiritual blessings are the best blessings.  God’s blessings are real things and produce real effects.  Jabez also prayed that God would enlarge his coast.  He also prayed that God would enlarge our hearts and enlarge our portion in Him and in the heavenly Canaan.  This ought to be our desire and prayer.  He prayed that God’s hand would be with us, to lead, protect, strengthen, and to work all His works in us and for us.  God’s hand is all sufficient for us.  Lastly, Jabez prayed that He would keep him from evil; the evil of sin, the evil of trouble and all the evil designs of his enemies that they might not hurt him nor make him a man of sorrow.  God granted that which he requested.  God is ever ready to hear prayer; His ear is never too heavy to hear you.

You truly have to have a heart of prayer.  You should develop a relationship with the Lord that is ongoing.  You should not let a day go by that you do not pray.  Prayer is fellowshipping with God.  God longs for your warm embrace.  Prayer allows you to tell God what is in your heart and it allows God to take out what should not be there.  Prayer is one of the key elements from the Potter’s wheel to the front.  Prayer is dying to oneself and allowing God to fill you with Himself.  Prayer is where you can receive instructions and/or directions from the Lord.  In prayer, there is a secret place that you can run to and find God.  The Lord wants you to give Him all of your problems, situations, circumstances, issues, troubles and/or concerns.  He wants you to lay them at His feet.  There is no reason why you should be walking around with all this stuff on you when we have a big God that can handle and take care of everything.

Our God still specializes in miracles.  There is nothing too hard for Him.  All you have to do is put all of your trust in Him, for He cares for you.  God wants you to trust Him totally and completely.  You can give Him everything and have the confidence in knowing that He will take care of you. Many people make things complicated in life when all we have to do is simply talk to God.

God wants to be our best friend.  God loves you unconditionally!  You can ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and make you new in Him!  Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away (Act 3:19 NLT).  Tell Him your needs!  "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7 NLT).  Thank Him, for He died on the cross at Calvary for us!  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16 NASB).

We can approach our Lord and Savior with confidence and belief that He will deliver.  Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence (Ephesians 3:12 NLT). "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most" (Hebrews 4:16 NLT).  We also have to have joy that He can deliver. You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence (Acts 2:28 NLT).  Approach Him with expectation that He is going to deliver.  "Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD.  Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly" (Psalm 5:3 NLT).  "I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.  Bend down and listen as I pray" (Psalm 17:6 NLT).

The power of prayer should not be underestimated.  The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.  God most definitely listens to prayers, answer prayers, and moves in response to prayers.  If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "...Move from here to there,’ and it will move.  Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20 NIV).  God answers prayers that are in agreement with His Will.  His answers are not always yes, but are always in our best interest.  When you pray passionately and purposefully according to God’s Will, God responds powerfully.

There  is  no  magic  formula  to   praying.  Therefore, getting your prayers answered is not based on the eloquence of your prayers.  You absolutely do not have to use certain words or phrases to get God to answer your prayers.  In fact, Jesus rebukes those who pray using repetitions, And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him (Matthew 6:7-8 NIV).  The power of prayer should never be underestimated because it draws on the glory and the might of the infinitely powerful God of the universe.

Your prayers should always be greater than the purposes of God.  Your focus should be for God to help you to better serve Him, to better love Him and His people.  When you pray enlarge my territory, you are praying to enlarge the range of my effort for the Kingdom, and open new doors of opportunity while increasing my influence.  God has a plan for your life.  God strategically places each of us to accomplish elements and roles of influence in the spreading of His Kingdom. Our relationships, our schools, our neighborhoods and our jobs are all venues through which God can use our influence to expand the Kingdom and enlarge His territory.

You have to be able to recognize your territory, the places where you have influence for the King.  The settings in which you operate are the territories that God has given you to represent the wishes, the plans and objectives of His Kingdom.  Your territory is your mission field, your ambassadorship.  Ask God to increase the range, the width and the depth of the territory you are to patrol and serve for His Kingdom.  Ask God to give you more influence for Him and to give you more opportunities for Him.  Ask Him to wrap up your entire life in great pursuit of His creation.  Ask Him to use each and every moment of your life, every muscle of your body, every word from your mouth to further draw people into the Kingdom.  This is your role.  When you pray this type of prayer, it is not a small thing.  You are asking for something that will definitely demand much more of you than perhaps you have ever asked for.

There are two demands you will immediately face when you begin praying for enlarged territory.  First, when you begin to pray for God to enlarge your territory, you will need to grow in your faith.  You will need God to increase not only your influence, but also your ability and willingness to trust Him and rely on Him.  Secondly, when you start praying for God to enlarge your territory, you will have to give up your comfort zone.  When God enlarges the realms of your influence, He will also enlarge your realm of responsibility.  In addition, to enlarge your arena of responsibility, He will expand your span of concern and care, requiring a greater maturity from you than ever before.  The more God increases your influence, the more responsibility you will face.  Therefore, you will need greater maturity and unselfishness. When you pray for God to enlarge your territory, you are asking God to increase your ability to live with responsibility, with maturity and in self-sacrifice.  The bottom line, you will have to grow-up.

When the Lord sees that you are able to handle responsibilities, He will give you
