Cafe Holiday: Poetry

About this ebook
As an orthopedic surgeon and as a human being, I have been no stranger to turmoil. For me, poetry has been an island of calm in the midst of such unrest, and in today's milieu, it can anchor the spirit and heal deep divides when thoughtfully considered. Into the extremes of our time steps Cafe Holiday, a small book of storied verse. Please, consider it thoughtfully.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT
TESTIMONY CHS—1957
The man doubts. A softness behind baleful, iron-gray eyes,
his only betrayal.
"You’ve stolen this, j’accuse."
Not ever would I need to.
Words summoned, dress process, birth thoughts to cloak minds
anew.
A newborn screams, as life and time beget experience.
ANNIE
Annie was a powerhouse, don’t chu mess
with our house. Guts, brains, body, too,
no double-crossing this broad Jew.
Solid intellect, gifts indeed select, writer,
painter, who could do, whatever asked,
had fortune not deterred her. Abandoned by
her father, high school’s honored dropout
buoyed her family on twelve depression dollars
