The Ruined Corridor

P ippa! Aunt Vivian calls up the stairs. Come on downstairs.

You stand in the front hallway of a strange, cramped little house. It’s a gray day outside, but the land around is green and lush and goes on for miles. You’ve never been this far from the city before.

The front hallway you stand in has a row of hooks high on the wall where several coats hang. The walls were once white, but are yellowed and scuffed with age. Still, it’s a nice house. It feels warm and cozy, like a home.

Pippa comes down the stairs. She’s got pale white skin, freckles, and
