About this ebook

"I'm sorry I didn't get your name, I'm Alvaro Montreal, and you are?"

"I'm Sergeant Lisa Standtorn," she replied.

"Thank you for saving my life back there; I owe you." He said.

"You're welcome. I'm just doing my job," she replied.

"Okay. Can I please have your contact?" he asked.

"My contact? She asked him as she eyed him suspiciously.

I can't wait to see him. I've not seen him in a week! Lisa thought as her thoughts were fixed on, Alvaro. She had been so tempted to invite Alvaro in after going on their first date, but she had managed to stop herself from inviting him for some reason she couldn't explain. She and Alvaro had gotten closer as they had talked frequently on the phone. Also, he had sent flowers each day to her. They both longed to see each other. Hence, they anticipated their date.

    CHAPTER ONE

WOW! WHAT A DAY! Lisa Standtorn said to herself as she drove from the office that day. Her thoughts roamed to the previous night when she and Brian had been on night duty. They had caught some criminals molesting a lady in the street by 1:00 am. Damn! Why would people act animalistic, she thought as she remembered how the lady’s clothes had been torn to shreds before they had come to intervene. She clenched her fist as she remembered how she had come to join the New York Police Department two months ago. It was as though it had happened the day before as the memories remained fresh; she had come home that day from a vacation with Carmen to meet her parent’s bodies, murdered in the most gruesome way. Worse still, to date, their killers had not been found. Her mind darted to the events that had happened that day.

She and her best friend, Carmen Rodriguez, had just returned from a trip to the Bahamas and were almost at their house when she began to feel uneasy.

Carmen, I feel uneasy; like something bad is going to happen, She had said.

Don’t be silly! It’s a jetlag. You’ll get over it, Carmen had answered as they had driven towards their house. As soon as they have parked in their driveway, the uneasy feeling had returned as quickly as she and Carmen had parked in their driveway.

Carmen, my mum isn’t tending the garden today. That’s unusual, She had said as it was customary for her mum to tend the gardens.

You need to calm down. She’s probably done it and is in already, Carmen had said as they had proceeded to go into their house. She didn’t need to wait too long for any confirmation as their door was ajar. She went in to see the body of her parent’s murdered gruelly.

Shit! She said to herself as tears were almost dripping from her eyes as she drove on. Since their death, she had joined the New York Police Department and had sworn to get their killers.

She was almost at the office when she noticed something out of the corner of her eyes.

What’s going on there? She said to herself as he parked the police cruiser she was driving some meters away from them. Are they friends? They seem to be having fun; a voice in her head told her. Can’t you see the man in the middle? He’s uncomfortable; something is wrong! Another voice in her head told her, and she picked up her walkie-talkie and said.

Sergeant Lisa Standton calling. There’s a possible theft ongoing at 1002, Fenway Avenue. I need backup immediately, over.

Backup will be with you in few minutes, The response replied as they ended the call.

It's better to be prepared than to be caught unaware. She said to herself as she left the cruiser and proceeded to the scene as stealthily as possible. She placed her hands on her
