Dedication
A collection of poetry written by
Jean Hill
Sharon Hill
Samantha Brewer
and Debbie Brewer
during the UK nationwide lockdown caused by the
Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak of 2020.
In memory of
Robin Hill
Husband, Father and Grandfather.
Foreword
Jean Hill, Sharon Hill, Debbie Brewer and Samantha Brewer are three generations of the same family: Jean, a retired secretary, and now a writer; her two daughters: Sharon, an accountant, and Debbie, a retired nurse and driving instructor and now also a writer, and Debbie’s daughter, Samantha, an air traffic controller.
With the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak and the resulting onset of lockdown, as they each live in four different areas of the country, they decided they would keep in touch by spending an hour every evening on Facetime together. During this time, they chatted, played games and challenged each other to write one poem every day.
The result, when all the poems were put together, is this wonderful collection of funny, sad, long and short poems that everybody can relate to. It is an absolute delight to read.
Lockdown Poetry
Every Window has a Rainbow – Debbie Brewer
As I walked upon the trodden path
The sun was shining high
The roads were calm, the skies were clear
And something caught my eye
Every house had this in common
Every flat had joined in too
Just to show appreciation
For the courage of the few
For those who braved the frontline
The children found a way
Every window had a rainbow
Very clearly on display
So tell the brave, we thank them
Show them that we care
Let them know we think of them
Put rainbows everywhere!
Coronavirus 2020 – Jean Hill
I’ve listened to the Minister
The one who guards our health
He talked of how a virus
Is creeping up with stealth
He warned of flu-like symptoms
In our head and on our chest
So I’ll get a pack of tissues
And I’ll wear my woolly vest
He said that we might cough a bit
With runny nose and fever high
But please will you enlighten me
Will someone tell me why
Folks are buying toilet rolls
Are they daft or unaware?
It’s their noses that need wiping
And
