About this ebook

A Billionaire Romance!

HIM: I had not time to even consider a relationship, until I was trapped in an elevator with a woman who might just be perfect for me. Except for the fact that she's my employee. But that's okay. I have a plan to make her fall for me, as long as I don't make her hate me first.

HER: Being trapped in an elevator wasn't what I expected for my first day at my new big job. Thank goodness for the handsome hunk who helps keep me calm. But after our rescue, he asks me out and I discover that he's no average co-worker. He's a billionaire!

Palm trees lined the street, stationed before stone and brick office fronts, some with wooden shutters painted bright blue, emerald green, or stately black. Savannah was a memory of a different time, one in which wagons would have been rolling down the cobblestone streets, instead of the SUVs and pickups I saw out my window today.

Mine was one of the SUVs, painted an imposing black, projecting strength and wealth. My impenetrable moving fortress. I pulled myself away from the window and focused on my phone, pulling up today’s schedule. A list of the usual meetings and conference calls scrolled by. Noticing the charity event scheduled for this evening, I sighed. I longed to be able to write a check to these charities instead of being forced through an overly complicated meal and predictable speeches. Even worse was the elbow rubbing. Sure, I enjoyed the company of several of my peers and neighbors, but there was one person in particular I wouldn’t mind avoiding.

She just happened to be my mother.

At every one of these events, she trotted out a new eligible female. Someone polished, with a well-established family. One who couldn’t wait to feather our nest, play at homemaker, and smile by my side during my inevitable political campaign. These were the things my mother wanted for me.

It wasn’t a bad life that Mom had envisioned. It just wasn’t my life. Empire building took all of my focus, and even if I had time for a relationship, it wouldn’t be with one of these milksop females my mother kept pushing in front of me. I wanted a woman who didn’t just stand by my side with a simpering smile. I wanted one who was my equal in the boardroom and in the bedroom. Someone who stole my attention, not faded into the background.

So far, I hadn’t found a woman who fired my imagination, not like a new business deal or emerging partnership did. I guess I’m married to my job.

As if on cue, my phone started to ring. It was my mother, calling to make certain I’d be at the event tonight.

Wouldn’t miss it, I said with false cheer.

My mother was well versed in seeing past my veneer. Oh, Nathaniel, I know you find these things tedious, but I have no idea why.

Could it be that they’re all the same progression of boring food, boring speeches, and boring conversation?

She scoffed and adopted her ‘be reasonable’ tone. You think anything that isn’t acquiring a new company or breaking ground on some new real estate deal is boring. Socializing with the good people of Savannah is hardly a hardship.

You’re right, Mother. That was my go-to phrase for getting her off the phone in the shortest time possible.

Of course I am, dear. Now, make sure your hair is presentable this time. I have someone I want to introduce you to.

Of course you do, Mother. My hair is always presentable.

"Last time you didn’t even bother
