‘A lifeline to the outside world’

TODAY I saw a telephone box on the edge of a little Cornish village. Overgrown, neglected, forgotten. Once a lifeline to the outside world for the village, where help was summoned for women in labour, farm accidents and the myriad emergencies that small farming communities suffer. Now it stands quietly merging into the countryside around it. And nobody cares.
