Develop Your Resilience in Difficult Times - Rolando José Olivo
In recent years too much has been written and talked about resilience (a term coming from physics, adapted to human behavior), whose meaning is broad and complex. It can be said that resilience is resistance or resistance capacity or recovery or recovery capacity or transformation or maturity or a set of attitudes, abilities and qualities. In short, resilience has many nuances. However, it is undeniable that resilience is closely related to rationality and the domain of emotions.
In general terms, the resilient one, who faces inconceivable tragedies (the book of Job is an excellent example of this situation, pushed to the limit), in certain way, manages to mitigate its immense suffering and executes a series of actions that lead to overcome adversities and succeed. Nonetheless, it is not very clear when the resilient qualities are awakened.
For example, Viktor Frankl was detained for three years in the Nazi concentration camps (his wife and parents died in these prisons) and instead of surrendering, like his colleagues, who were discouraged and extremely depressed, he realized that this situation was temporary, had to understand it, and seek how to regain his course in life. Masterfully, he was able to reflect on the great existential mysteries and to-date, Viktor Frankl is the only researcher who has been able to give satisfactory explanations about the meaning of human life, and is widely recognized for founding logotherapy and his prolific career as a psychiatrist and writer, with twenty-nine Honoris Causa Doctorates.
In order to develop resilience, it is advisable to have certain notions about the human nature, understand the meaning of resilience and its fundamental attitudes, and analyze the examples given by Jesus and the saint Job. It is also necessary to build up certain habits and put into practice an ethics (that reinforces moral and religious beliefs, leading to a full and satisfactory life), which is decisive to identify and discover the meaning of life.
In this regard, this literary work is divided into the following main chapters:
II. The Human Needs.
III. Resilience.
IV. The Most Extraordinary Man in All History.
V. The Example of Job.
VI. Developing Resilience.
The Chapter II. The Human Needs looms a part of the complex human nature (What are the main human needs? Why are human beings so dissatisfied? Why does a life of luxury and comfort not guarantee happiness?). The Chapter III. Resilience analyzes its conception (What is resilience? What are the attitudes and qualities that differentiate resilient ones from others?). The Chapter IV. The Most Extraordinary Man in All History gives notions about the sensational influence of the Master (Who is Jesus? What is his legacy?). The Chapter V. The Example of Job reflects the background of Job's story, marked by the fight between the good and the evil, the human suffering and the resilience of Job (Is the history of Job
