About this ebook

Sixth book of the collection The Most Extraordinary Man of All History:

Although Jesus knew very well the complex human nature, He had to deal with radical religious people, accustomed to continuing with their strict customs and yearning for the arrival of a powerful warrior Messiah, who would free them from the Roman occupation.

Surprisingly, Jesus is the only leader who did not adapt to the demands and expectations of the great majority of his supporters, and created the most relevant social and religious movement in history, managing to extend the belief of a One True God, throughout the world.

The impressive merits of Jesus are due in part to his incredible strategies and extraordinary leadership style, which is unique, unconventional and constitutes a challenge to modern leadership theories.

The Extraordinary Unconventional Leadership of Jesus - Rolando José Olivo

    I. INTRODUCTION

Jesus or Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus Christ or Christ (…?-33), an extraordinary strategist and leader, had to deal with radical religious people, accustomed to continuing with their strict customs and yearning for the arrival of a powerful warrior Messiah, who would free them from the Roman occupation.

Although He knew very well the complex human nature, which tends towards non-conformity and dissatisfaction, because human needs are unlimited and prevails a tendency to fall into adverse emotional states, instead of taking advantage of extraordinary human qualities, that include motivation and optimism. Even more, Jesus called not to fall into anguish, frustration and depression, not to lose faith, optimism and hope, in difficult times, and to do our best efforts.

However, in this Modern Industrial Era, in order to optimally manage resources and improve productivity, various management and leadership theories have been developed, which have evolved, standing out that the latest ones consider the importance of human capital (the hardest resource to manage).

In this regard, Jesus was human and much more than human, came to serve and not to be served, and for Him the needs of people were the most important matter. So much so that Jesus, an extraordinary strategist and leader, saved humankind, through his sacrifice on the cross, created the most relevant social and religious movement in history, and managed to extend the belief of a One True God, throughout the world.

In short, the merits of Jesus are exceptional (many people of his time followed Him and He also has numerous supporters of several generations), and He used these strategies to achieve his main objectives:

    1. Prepare very well in the knowledge of the Scriptures (including messianic prophecies).

    2. Fulfill all messianic prophecies.

    3. Always accept the will of God.

    4. Act ethically, peacefully, without discriminating and setting the example for others.

    5. Delegate relevant activities and create an organizational structure.

    6. Teach his followers to reason and mature.

    7. Help the oppressed and needy.

    8. Preach the necessary time.

    9. Do not leave written documents.

    10. Sacrifice in the cross.

    11. Resuscitate.

    12. Do not appear publicly after the resurrection.

    13. Ascend to Heaven.

    14. Delegate the preaching of the Gentiles to a new ally.

The extraordinary leadership of Jesus is unconventional, is based on his Authority, and challenges recognized theories of leadership. In this regard, Jesus is the only leader who didn´t adapt to the demands and expectations of many of his supporters (rather, the followers must comply with his guidelines), and his leadership style has supportive and achievement-oriented features.

With the purpose of analyzing Jesus' leadership (considering human nature and notions of management and leadership), this literary work is divided into these chapters:

    A. The complex human nature.

    B. Management and leadership.

    C. The extraordinary unconventional leadership of Jesus.

The Chapter II. The Complex Human Nature contains these sections: a) II.1 The Human Needs (What are they?), b) II.2 The Human Egoism-Mimicry (Why do we yearn for the successes of others?), c) II.3 The Extraordinary Human Qualities (What are they?), d) II.4 The Adverse Human Qualities (Why do the persons orient towards suffering, non-conformity and dissatisfaction?), and e) II.5 Conclusions on the Complex Human Nature.

While the Chapter III. Management and Leadership is divided into these subchapters: a) III.1 The Management Styles (Which ones are related to leadership?), b) III.2 The Leadership Theories (What are their main approaches?), and c) III.3 Conclusions on Management and Leadership.

And the Chapter IV. The Extraordinary Unconventional Leadership of Jesus has these sections: a) IV.1 The Extraordinary Life of Jesus (How was his life, according to biblical texts?), b) IV.2 The Sensational Teachings of Jesus (What is his legacy?), c) IV.3 The Strategies of Jesus (What are the main ones?), d) IV.4 The Leadership of Jesus (How is his leadership style?), and e) IV.5 Conclusions on The Extraordinary Unconventional Leadership of Jesus.

Finally, Jesus, the most extraordinary man in history, exercised an unconventional leadership, which is unique and can´t be repeated by any human being. Masterfully, He interacted with very radical followers (as well as some of his relatives, prone to reject Him), faced difficult circumstances and moved forward, fulfilling his goals and transforming human history and some beliefs of Western societies, being the top leader of humanity.

    II. THE COMPLEX HUMAN NATURE

Obviously, human nature is extremely complex, since human beings are slaves of an inexhaustible cycle of need-achievement-need (when fulfilling some aspirations, others will arise), and at the same time, they are immersed in an unprecedented duality. On the one hand, they have extraordinary abilities, capacities and skills, and on the other hand, they are also prone to suffer due to their adverse qualities, and not be able to react adequately to fatal events and failures. Because of this, people tend towards non-conformity and dissatisfaction, being an inexhaustible source of aspirations, desires, needs and yearnings.

In order to glimpse the complex human nature (which was fully understood by Jesus, an extraordinary strategist and leader), this chapter is divided into the following sections:

    A. The human needs

    (What are they?).

    B. The human egoism-mimicry

(Why do we yearn for the successes of others?).

    C. The extraordinary human qualities

    (What are they?).

    D. The adverse human qualities

(Why do the persons orient towards suffering, non-conformity and dissatisfaction?).

    II.1 THE HUMAN NEEDS

The American psychologist Abraham Maslow (1908-1970) classified human needs into five levels:

    a) physiological (feeding, resting, sleeping, breathing, etc.),

    b) safety (employment, possessions, resources, etc.),

    c) belongingness (affection, friendship, group membership, etc.),

    d) esteem (trust, success, respect, etc.),

    e) self-actualization (creativity, success, innovation,
