Dedication
To my son, Pianki Assegai, to be used in his role as a parent, mentor, role model and teacher.
To those individuals who desire to nurture and shape young minds, enabling them to become confident, responsible and well-balanced citizens.
Acknowledgements
Firstly, I would like to acknowledge God for inspiring me to record the many invaluable lessons taught to me by my son Pianki. This book represents the culmination of strategies developed during my own parenting journey and insights from the many parents who have so generously shared their experiences with me.
Secondly, my parents, Mr and Mrs Rickard, for the support and love they gave me through my life’s journey. My dad walked proudly next to me to keep me mobile and active when my body was contorted through illness.
To my sisters, Yvonne Davies and Joanne Rickard, for our adventures and laughter and their support. I could always rely on Yvonne to ensure that I looked good.
To my granddad, Mr Swinton, and deceased grandma with whom I spent my early years, for being positive role models, protectors and friends. I often rode on grandpa’s shoulder and swung in the yards of material that made up grandma’s skirts.
To my dear friend, Candy, who has encouraged and supported me as an editor. To Ankhara, a very special friend who kept the flame alight when my vision got cloudy and my spirit weakened.
