Chapter 1

I'm heartbroken. Every God Damn time, they tell me the same thing,

You're infertile. I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do.

My supportive but somewhat distant husband Daryl grabs my hand to console my feelings of anguish, sorrow and rage. Daryl has been a good support through this whole ordeal, but he seems to keep losing hope and spending more time with his friends. The doctor continues on,

Based on your charts, successful impregnation is next to impossible. Your uterus is too narrow, your hips are too thin, essentially your birthing canal won't be able to support a full-term pregnancy.

There has to be something we can do doctor, pushes Daryl.

Unfortunately, nothing that I know of... We both pause. The doctor scans our eyes and sees the desperation, the passion, the drive. ...however, I happen to have an excellent colleague in the field of experimental research in fertility treatments.

Turning to Daryl, I gasp.

Please, if there's ANYTHING we can try, we will!

The doctor hands me a referral form.

Go to 2458 Dracker Street. His name is Dr. William Seed. He is very skilled, but I must warn you, he says hesitating, Dr. Seed has been known to find great treatments for his patients but there have been, ahem, a few concerns regarding quality of life afterwards.

I'm confused. What do you mean by that? Like for the baby?

No, no he says removing his thick glasses, For the woman. The treatments he does can...change a person, both mentally and physically. He pauses a moment. "But, I'm not him so you can ask him all the questions you'd like when you see him. Now, I've gone ahead
