The Jesus Story - Paul Lynch

    Introduction

JOHN 1:14 TELLS US that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through him, and without

him was not anything made that was made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.

8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

11 He came to his own, and his people did not receive him.

12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in   his name, he gave the right to become children of  God,

13 Who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only  Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Word mentioned here is about Jesus who is called Christ. Christ simply means the Anointed One of Israel. Jesus simply means Savior or God who saves. The true name of God is Jesus Christ. Jesus came to earth over two thousand years ago to dwell among us and reconcile us back to God the Father.

English throughout the years has been adjusted and changed. Some words are no longer in our dictionary and many words have been added. We have many different English dictionaries and varying kinds of English. The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and later Latin. Then it was translated into an Old type of English. That is why when you read the King James Version of the Bible it sounds like William Shakespeare’s voice. But it is not Shakespeare’s voice rather it is just how English sounded back in the 15 and 16th centuries. Many books around that time sounded the same.

These stories taken from the Gospels are told in much simpler English. This is concerning the texts. The stories are taken from the various gospels. The truth is that the Bible remains the bestselling book of all time. It is the only book to be translated in all languages on the earth. We have many books in this world, but only the Bible gives us the spiritual essence of reality. The words of Jesus makes a difference.

Today, we can ask as many people what they know about Jesus and we would get many responses. Some may say he was a great teacher, he taught us how to love, he was a Jewish Rabbi, he was a carpenter’s son who later turned a prophet, or he belonged to a secret sage group. We would get many answers. Jesus also asked his disciples who do people say he was and they gave similar answers. They said, ‘some say you are Jeremiah, Isaiah, the carpenter’s son, or one of the prophets.’

It is not who we speculate Jesus to be that will work in our favor, but it is actually who He says He is. Jesus said to the disciples that he was one greater than Jonah, he was greater than King Solomon, and he is greater than all the prophets of old. He said to us he is the source of our strength. He is the light of
