    Chapter One

Captain Mia Summers, 34, of Station 6 Fire Department in Southend, California, America; had just returned from her meeting with the district Chief, when she discovered all their firefighting apparatuses, one Engine; one Squad; and their Aid Car were parked outside in the drenching afternoon rain.

Fuming, she ran into the fire station through the main reception doors and shouted at whoever was around. Get those bloody vehicles in NOW!, while marching towards the main garage, and not noticing the red tape hanging by the door. She continued in and was heading to the master switch to open the doors when she was suddenly grabbed from behind, pulled away and swinging away from where she was heading finding herself several feet from where she originally was while still held.

Instantly she reacted, kicking her boot into the assailant’s foot, then having gained some freedom, she twisted and elbowed his face, causing him to stagger away from her yowling in pain. Then twisted around and seeing it was not one of her guys, she instantly kicked out at his stomach, forcing him away from her and caused him to fly backwards landing on the floor not moving.

Moments later a crash sounded behind her, where she was just heading to - ductwork crashed onto the floor. Jumping in shock at this, she looked up and saw a guy hanging in a harness with goggles and angle grinder. What the hell are you doing to my firehouse! she shouted. Get done here now and explain yourselves. Then she turned and shouted Jake! Get here NOW! loudly that the neighbours next door could probably even hear it through the pelting rain.

Three firefighters rushed to the garage and they staggered to a stop with seeing their Captain was red with rage. They were backing away a bit, when Lt. Jake Green entered. Green knowing Captain Mia for a long time, he calmly approached her with a letter in his hand. Not saying a word he handed it to her. Mia speed read it and swore then stormed out the garage saying, Sort him out.

About five minutes later, she heard the Aid-Car drive away, and while sitting in the office, calming down, a couple of minutes later she was calling HQ and after been transferred to the correct department, she discovered that the Fire Department had contracted Southend Maintenance Company to inspect and repair any damages in all the 9 stations in Southend.

Groaning, as she felt they had failed to inform her directly beforehand, she hung up the call and was sorting her desk when she discovered a note from the other shift’s captain. Sitting there in her chair, she fumed that she was not informed via the usual method of communication of emails, which she would have seen on her phone regardless if she was on or off duty. Now she had to go admit she was at fault and apologise to that guy she assaulted. Moments later, after gathering her wits and calmed down, she left her office and was heading towards the garage when Southend’s Battalion Chief Dan Murray rushed into the fire station, entering from the door of reception, and while
