    Introduction

How much value are we able to express in the company in which we work? How can we best realize our potential? What are the strategies to manage contexts of stress and excessive competitiveness? This book collects the know how and knowledge necessary to solve the questions above and to create solutions to get the best out of your work.

Psychology applied to the field of business presents one of the best opportunities to increase one's productivity, but above all to make it coincide with greater personal satisfaction; an idea that could appear paradoxical today as the world of work struggles to realize the expectations of those who work there. Even if phenomena such as the globalisation of markets and the outsourcing of work to low-wage countries have brought serious consequences in Western economies, part of the current work difficulties certainly stem from individual interpretative errors and unhappy career choices.

Without a deep understanding of the current psycho-economic situation, one risks entering a tunnel vision, in which compulsive (as much as understandable) attention is paid only to the limits imposed by the current scenario, without seeing the related opportunities.

This presupposition explains why it is becoming more and more difficult to make one's activity coincide with a real path of personal fulfilment. In an era in which manual work has become the prerogative of automated machines, psychology can offer valuable answers to understand the functional business model in the new knowledge market, both by offering individuals a better analysis of the context in which they operate and by suggesting an introspective activity that can help people understand how to make the most of their potential.

These analytical and understanding skills can bring great benefits not only at the individual level. For organizations it means achieving a goal that can produce constant results, which is to put the right man in the right place.

Learning the basic concepts of work psychology means learning methods to correctly recognize and evaluate one's own skills in relation to the operational context, to better understand the colleagues and partners with whom one shares the daily experience of collaboration and ultimately to realize the added value that is the basis of any growth in the business world.

In summary, this guide was created to explain in a simple and accessible way how to use the knowledge of psychology in modern organizations. By integrating psychological know-how with economic-organisational know-how, it is possible to obtain a better understanding of work situations and possible evolutionary scenarios.

The idea is to offer readers a key to interpreting the current work context, basic information that can, on the one hand, facilitate their career choices and, on the other hand, provide different cognitive resources than those typical of economic and financial analysis.

As in the other manuals in this series, my hope is that the text will be simple and accessible to understand, but not too simplistic.

Above all, I would like the information contained here to highlight the fallacy of those who propose techniques of analysis of monothematic work contexts and professional growth strategies based on exclusively numerical formulas, as well
