- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I LOVED this book. One of my favorites in a long time. It made me want to be a vegetarian, and not many things could pull that from me. Very tender and endearing, a must if you love animals.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kathy Stevens, the founder and administrator of the Catskill Animal Sancturary in upstate New York, relates the story of the sanctuary's mission to rescue abused and neglected farm animals. Many of the stories in the book revolve around such animals as Buddy, the blind horse of the title; Rambo, a rambunctious ram; and Paulie, a precocious rooster who enjoys sleeping in bed with Kathy and riding in her car seated on a nest of towels. She does at times seem to anthropomorphize some of her animal characters just a bit too much. Although not the main focus of her book, the author does spend some time detailing the abuses of agribusiness in the raising and slaughter of cattle and chickens. One can enjoy her stories of rescuing abused animals without necessarily subscribing to her call to forsake the eating of meat. However, she will give some readers a few matters to ponder in this regard.
