A catch up with Lotus Heart Animal Sanctuary
On the Isle of Skye, Scotland, nestled in 76 acres of gorgeous croft land, you’ll find Lotus Heart Sanctuary — a safe haven for rescued ‘farm’ animals as well as people. Last year, we met with Lotus owner, Lynn Jolly, just as she was launching her new glamping pods for the site. Just over a year on, we catch up with Lynn once more, to find out how things are going.
Hi again, Lynn! Since we spoke to you last summer, what new animal residents have you taken on?
In the last year, Lotus has taken on three more calves, Ewan, Bramble and Bobby D, so there are eight bullocks in total including Prince, Chester, Dallas, Tom Thumb and Angus. We also have seven more sheep, a mix of Texels and Cheviots, by a Belgian couple visiting Skye. We have also given a home to two stunning feral cats; their Mum was sadly killed in a road traffic accident and they were only kittens who were out in the wild trying to feed and fend for themselves. Uist Cat Rescue managed to save them, and they now have a beautiful home in the Cow’s Knee’s Cowshed here at the sanctuary — they’ve become such little companions to me as they follow me everywhere as I work — they are called Lizzie and Duthie. Every animal name has been chosen carefully and has very special meaning behind it. We still have the two Jack Russell’s of course, Nipper and Alfie — Nipper is the oldest resident at 14 and one of the faces of the sanctuary, alongside Prince.
