About this ebook
The offer was simple - one baby, one million dollars.
For an eccentric gentleman renowned and disgraced, a bargain in his will may be the last opportunity.
Whether for prestige, money, or want of children, the twelve women who accepted had no idea where their desperation would lead. Because these children are more science than nature. What can a parent do when their baby has superpowers?

Prologue
THE WILL WAS ODD; Walter Olek
Olekson was an odd man. He wrote it himself, very carefully. He named names and left detailed instructions. For his property, his possessions, his funds; most of all, his research. There were secret notes for his colleagues; the few he had left. And for those who accepted, there was money. One million dollars for each woman who bore him a child. His legacy.
The devil was in the fine print.
Alex
MY BABY WAS THE SWEETEST GIRL, like I always wanted. Waiting to meet her was the hardest part. My coworkers at the grocery store gossiped about my big belly, but I didn’t care. I had waited so long and I was so happy.
The ad in the paper was so small I almost missed it, and vague. A lawyer explained it all to me, but the important part – the really, truly, most important part – was that I would finally have a baby. They promised. And it was easier than I thought. A doctor put a needle in me and, just like that, Alex was made.
I could feel her growing inside me, waiting to meet me too. This perfect little baby that was all mine. One person that was only for me.
I wondered what she would look like. Would she have my lips, my nose, my hair? Or would she look more like the man whose stuff was put into me? The obituary picture was only gray, an old-person portrait. He looked goofy. I hoped my baby wouldn’t look too much like him. I read something about watermelon and strawberries, that if you ate them your baby would be a beautiful little girl. So I ate a lot. Every time I took a break at work, I would sneak a container of watermelon cubes or a handful of strawberries. They made me sticky, but they were so sweet like my little girl would be.
The women at work complained about pregnancy. They told me I would swell up and everything would hurt and I would piss myself. I told them my precious baby wouldn’t do that to me. They complained about having babies. They told me I would tear wide open and nothing would ever go back in place and I’d have to wear diapers. I told them that’s not how babies come out. I rubbed my belly and asked, You wouldn’t hurt me, would you, baby?
The women walked away and stopped talking to me, even about work stuff.
Julie said I was stupid. She said
