This poor country boy was able to make a good living doing it; therefore, I can leave something for my children’s children, as we are told to do in God’s word. CHAPTER ONE

THE BOY WHO CANNOT READ

I was born in the sweltering heat of the old south at the old Hospital on University Blvd in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1939. It was a time of dusty roads and brick downtown streets. There was no air conditioning in those days, at least not for us poor folks. In some places, there was not even a fan to blow hot air, depending on whether there was electricity or not.
